Looking great, Rob. It would be good to see that Albacore wet!

I will use as much of the old electronics and the propulsion motor to keep it as close to original as possible.

The hull seems to be ABS plastic and in good shape. What I am going to do is design and fabricate another 3D Printed 3.5" WTC/SD and adapted the old electronics and the motor to the new WTC. I have decided to make this Albacore a dynamic diver! This will be another step closer to a full static diving sub for me!

I have a bunch of proper parts to help you along with that hull, Rob. I assume you're going to assemble this thing as the ALBACORE, phase-2?

The Albacore that I am rebuilding is the same as the photos above. The only change I am making is it will not be a static diver! I am going to use all the old existing electronics and motor that came with this boat. I will keep it as close to what the original boat looked like as possible. Thanks David! The parts you have seem to be the same way the boat is already built at this point.

The only changes I am making to this boat is the WTC that I will 3D fabricate to replace the old warped and crack compartment that came with the boat, and in place of a static diver it will be a dynamic diver.

Very good. A most interesting lease-on-a-new-life project. I'll be following it with interest.

I am starting to work out different ideas for the motor mounting system for the WTC. Trial and error at this point!

I have two 3.5" X 12" Acrylic tubes coming to be used as the equipment housing for the WTC. This system will the same basic design as the one I built for the Astute and the Redoutable!

Final motor unit will not be fabricated until the Acrylic tubes arrive so that I can true up the final measurements.

Progressing on the design phase of the WTC for the Albacore. The red PLA printed items at this point will be replaced with a different color and correct sizing. It's all prelim. right now!

                    Thanks Bob!

I want to clean up both the top and bottom hull and put on a coat of quality primer. I like a nice clean interior and some sort of organization for the electronics, wiring, battery, and motor, (I know, it's a sickness I have) It all started with our Fire Trucks!

                          Hi Rob
No it`s not a sickness, neat is always better during setups of equipment. Easier later on to find faults and repair them.

It will be nice to see it running! The old equipment, if it still works, had subs running wonderfully 20+ years ago. So, it is very cool you are going to get it working using the older tech.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I went through the electronics, and everything seems to be working OK! The motor and belt drive gear system is also working, and by looks of the prop size it should move through the water with some authority!

The old Hitec receiver had some internal water damage so I will be replacing that part of the system and using my VEX TX & RX system. Also the original owner removed one of the mounting supports on one side of each of the two Hitec HS-322HD servos. They do work, so I will design a mount for them as well.

This will be a fun project, and we will see what happens!
