Just remember, with each shipment, you roll the dice. Doing solid packaging helps the odds, but if the shipping gods want tribute, they'll take it, no matter how many layers of bubblewrap, cardboard and prayers you use...

        David,

I will be very interested to see how you go with the Xia. I built one years ago and it’s now collecting dust but ran quite well in its day.

Excellent documentation, Sam. And much appreciated. I love the stark contrasts between red, light gray, and almost black non-skid.

At one time I was a cog in the wheel of a machine (nine patrols on the USS DANIEL WEBSTER) designed to incinerate Chines babies, children, mom's, dad's and anyone else in or near our target package.

Today the Chinese hold that same type razor to our throats.

              Karma's a *****!

Will you be using the stock appendages or fabricate new resin ones?

                    David,
Can the Seawolf 2" SD be used for this boat?

                      I'm using the 1/96 BALUGA, 2" SD

How long is your ballast section?

Maybe you can weigh the mass of all the plastic kits above the waterline yourself and then make an estimate to get a reasonable ballast water volume , it's really not that hard.
Mr. Merriman has done this operation tens of thousands of times and is probably tired of answering such questions, because you can do it yourself and it is not difficult.

I don't have this particular kit, yet.

I posted the pictures in one of my FB groups and someone was asking for the size of the BT and actual SD.

Looking at the photos the entire SD looks like it's around 15 inches long. The ballast section looks like it's 6 inches long giving a approximate volume of 300 cc. Click image for larger version

It is more important to teach him how to choose the WTC size than to tell him the size directly...

                                James, 'gets it!'

Spoon-feed them, they'll never leave your door.

Teach them and they will deal with the world on their own terms, in their own way... well away from my door.
