Success. Size correct now. Test of second hull perfect size now dialed in perfectly for 1/32. Other parts printing proceeding. I will do some light sanding and removal of flash & coat with a primer for making surfaces perfect. Should send you mold patterns for you Dave to begin your magic in 2 weeks I expect. Sailoring on, I guess the appropriate word should be Ciao for now. lol

The one I'm currently working on is 1/72nd. It originated in the hands of Master Craftsman, Greg Sharpe who first offered it as a GRP kit decades ago. Later the tooling was acquired by Matt Thor who did his usual magic with the glass work and issued the kit under his label. Early on with that transition I got involved by contributing 'improved' stabilizers and control surfaces, linkages, propellers, and mast detailing.

I'm also working up a Scale Shipyards 1/96 ALFA. It's almost done but other work has priority at the moment.

There is usually so much variation in the 1:1 boats, especially smaller craft that were generally handmade in different yards from some generic plans and often altered over their service life. A modellers can drive themselves into a padded cell trying to get it 100%. Seehund is a good example, despite construction in a form of production line no two appeared identical. In service they were subject to repair or retrofitted with updated kit, usually hastily done, and any surviving examples have often been further hacked around to repair damage or corrosion.

beautiful work on those masts. my 1/72 Alfa was a great running boat; I wish I would have had that hardware for the sail. It was pretty plain without it. Great stuff, David.Comment

For those looking over my shoulder: Though I've known Sam for decades, I had no idea that this Clark Kent type had a secret identity as an expert wood sculptor -- only recently did I find some of his bird work over at Facebook. His work is photo-real! Amazing stuff. Go over there and check out his work.

Thanks for the accolades, David. I started carving birds in 1988, the same year I started building a 32nd Parallel Type VIIc. For years, I’d sell my carvings to help sustain both carving and model building hobbies.

Right now, I’ve got two birds, a 1/72 Type XXI and a 1/200 HMS Nelson going at the same time. :)
