I used to use them all the time when I was carving foam forms for fish taxidermy, and I still use one occasionally for carving my wooden birds.
Yup. Hence my reluctance to engage in activities that -- as a must -- rely exclusively on electricity. If I can't substitute a mule-on-a-treadmill for the tools I use, I don't want anything to do with said tool.
You want a ****ing book? Copy all my ****, have it bound, and put it away for the apocalypse (it'll be one of the three Books Geoge takes back with him to share with the Eloi, no doubt -- as the Morlock Water & Power company would have been put out of business by then).
A pointed question to you kids: How many of you know what a spokeshave is?
The Prosecution rests.

Excellent crimps using the proper tool! (I used to teach high-reliability crimping in my soldering classes.) Some of our smaller pins were about a quarter that size and a PITA to get properly located in the crimper -even under high magnification!Comment

Is that 2" Subdriver tailored specifically for the Astute or a repurposed Seawolf SD?

The ASTUTE will have a dedicated SD of it's own -- ballast tank volume to suit that particular boat. The XIA is alive and well and hibernaiding in a dark corner of the shop.

David,
One of my Gato pumps is not sealing (allowing free flow backwards, so need to run pump continuously to keep ballast empty. If I do not, air will work its way out. Where can I buy some of those pumps (like the ones in your TrumpeterAstute)? Was there any modifications I need to do once purchased?
Peace,

Today I can't find any of them on Amazon or Ebay. Back in the day -- when we worked for Mr. Caswell who had the buying clout for massive discounts from China -- he would order them by the hundreds, but over time I've pretty much exhausted those I had left in the bins since I retired. Sorry, not much help from this end, Steve. Good luck. They are used in portable blood-pressure machines, so if you can tear one of those apart, you likely have the pump you need.David,

You can get them from Aliexpress for pennies. e.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesa...etail.search.0
Sounds to me like your existing pump has a leaky valve, shouldn’t be difficult to fix, they’re simple little diaphragm pumps.Last edited by Subculture; 11-04-2024, 02:04 AM.Comment

Tom, I needed one for the Kilo along with the controller that i\I was finishing about 4 years ago. I contacted Bob and he was quite rude saying something in the order of why am I playing with small toys and no he didn't have them! I emailed Kevin and he supplied the pump and the pump controller! Kevin is our man! I really miss Mike Casewell and the service he provided!Comment
