Sunken Mike class. Note that the inside prop looks smaller than the outside prop.

Thats the K278 "Komsomolets" Mike class boat. It appears to have two different size props in the published drawings, but the aft prop is smaller. The only time I have seen the 276 out of the water it had a tarp covering the entire prop/cone section. There is a U Tube video that was made during the commissioning cerimonies. Propulsion was one of the big secrets of that boat, It was never determined how fast it went. The other big secret was the titanum pressure hull, which gave it a tremendous crush depth. That sucker is still on the bottom with a hot reactor and weapons. I think the camera angle and the fact that they are counter rotating, and they have reversed pitch may give that appearance. Also the lower blade is stuck in the sand, which adds to the illusion. I tried a little experiment with a pair of props, by putting them together and making the blades line up sequentially. As you rotate them and look at them on a latteral plane, one always appears larger than the other no matter what their position. Sometimes the forward and sometimes rear.

The British, apparently, tried out a SOKS system similar to the Russians on their Trafalgar. Wonder how it worked? Maybe they incorporated it into Astute.Click image for larger version

The more pics I see of this sub, the more I'm glad about my selection and enjoy sailing with mine. Have finished (at last, after more than five yeras) my REVELL VII C. IT WORKS!!!!!!: DIVES AND (more important) RESURFACES. Will take and upload some video.

Mr. C, can you increase our selection of "Smilies"? Sometimes my emotions need additional expression. I especially like the one of the little guy showing his embarrassment, but I cant use it all the time. Regards LOL!
