The fairing aft in question on the Dutch Navy Walrus Sail is a infrared suppressor. The aft location is normally where the boats diesel exhaust is emitted. It cuts down thermal radiation & perhaps noise too. It does add a lot of character to these fine subs.

That's a Polish ****e hawk - as distinct from the Austro-Hungarian two headed, full ****e hawk which was the emblem of the Arch Duke Ferdinand. Also used by the Russians (and bizzarely, the cap badge of the unit that I served with in the British Army, 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards). I blame it all on Queen Victoria.Leave a comment:

Well , the way things are going these days, I wouldn't be surprised if they hoisted a flag of Spongebob SquarepantsLeave a comment:

Although the Polish flag is red and white, this flag seems to have more on it. Not sure, but I am not seeing another country flag with red at the bottom and white on top. So good call on Poland. Would they hoist a flag of the town or sub's insignia?Last edited by trout; 06-16-2017, 11:29 PM.Leave a comment:
