As to the Rapier, they must have some kinda sighting device If they can see it 19 miles away, or is it a radar blip?
The Rapier Battery is connected to AWR and the actual sight is optical and the operator follows the target by using a joystick to track the target and when locked on presses the tit to launch the missile.
19 mile snipers is the nickname the Gunners use in the British Army. They have guns that can range out to 19 miles and can acquire targets from Phoenix which is an unmanned drone which sends back real time tv images and a grid reference as to where the target is. Input the data, load the gun, press the tit and bingo, one shell on target bye bye bad person. Simples.

Regarding to RAPIER, there's a BBC program about Malvinas (Falklands) war where you can see how RAPIER batteries rub out the sky argentinian planes. Really impressive.
