A few more vegetables here to throw into the pot. I maybe bias, but of all the WW2 era midget subs, Japanese, German, British, the Italian CB subs are to coolest looking. As Meriman said "very Organic". A Little Jules Verne too.

The Italian Navy in WW2 often gets a bad rap historically. Impressive ships, good able seaman, poor leadership and no fuel. The best optical range finders on their warships in th world combined with, inconsistent naval gun propellants resulting in very wide (too wide) fall of shot patterns (thankfully for the Royal Navy).

But One thing the Italians excelled at was special ops! Human torpedoes and midget subs successful ops against Gibraltar and Alexandria. Sinking soviet ships and subs in the Black Sea. Asymmetric warfare before it had the title Asymmetric warfare. Best complement, the British copied their 'Pigs' (human torpedoes). The early primitive diving equipment they used compared to now. Very little known yet about diver physiology either. Gutsy.

So, the gear reduction units I once produced are no longer available from me.
Kinda sucks when companies chase the long dollar and leave the little guys behind, but we always find a way and where least expected sometimes too.

About how far apart are the two o-rings for each seal? Also, do you just spray the rods and o-rings with mold release, or do you grease them too?

1/8" spacing between the O-rings. I only grease the mandrels before sliding the O-rings on. Yes!... tedious work, but rewarding. These pushrod seals have proven to be near bullet-proof; a major improvement over the single O-ring versions initially produced.

David, while at Subfest you looked at one of my SD's to figure out water intrusion and immediately mentioned they were single o-ring seals. What gave that away?

The color of the resin bodies. Periodically, every couple of years, I change the color of the resin so I get a rough 'machinery history' on our products. I can identify large lots by rough date of manufacture.

Want a few more 'improved' seals, Ken?

Sure, the stubborn Skipjack SD I'm going to spend lots of time one of these days before Cabin Fever trying to figure out where that tiny bit of water is coming in. That was the SD you looked at. Might as well replace them with known double seals before I start. Will shoot you my address? You've sent me so many things you should have it.
