I post this **** just for guys like you, Tom. Old friend. You actually show up at events to drive the damned things! You, me, Ed, Casey, Steve, and a precious few others, we had the pool to ourselves!

These days too many r/c submarine 'builders' sit on their duffs watching YouTube as they're printer grinds away in the shop, doing most of the work for them; it's the very few (today) who put the work in with their own hands. If one actually puts the sweat-equity into something, then they will be more inclined to extract as much enjoyment from that something than if that something had been gifted to them or cranked out by a ****ing Star Trek Replicator!

At the last SubFest: How many models were working trouble-free that were robot produced as compared to those hand-crafted models built/assembled by practical Mechanics? (Rhetorical, yes. Just making a point). It's not the quality of the 3D printed submarine -- Steve has magnificently shown us that big or small, the material of these things is on a par with an injection formed kit. It's the lazy attitude of (most) people who rely on the 'easy way' into this game.

Most attendees who make these events spend their time either trimming boats (work that should have been done before hand); waiting for someone to help them out; or are camped out in a lawn-chair gabbing with others who should also be in the water making the pool safe for Democracy/Communism/National Socialism/The Empire/His Majesty. So many 'Captains'. So little traffic on and under the water.

If I wasn't helping someone out; taking a ****; chasing down a frequency pin; blowing up Lithium-polymer batteries; or eating doughnuts, I was driving one of my model submarines on and under the water. THAT'S WHY I GO TO REGATTAS!!! And to teach guys how to drive and get the most out of their toy submarine.

Tell it, brother. Been working on the Blueback. All three servos are dead. Lucky for me the gas system servo is good. Looks like all the electronics survived. I replaced the connections with heat shrink, sprayed everything with contact cleaner, and replaced the motor bulkhead where the water came in. Hope to test it while the weather cooperates.

        Sorry, a target.

TT scale (did you have table top scale railways in the US?) 'Dolphin' customs and excise launch. Last steam powered C&E craft on the Thames, built circa 1937 decommissioned 1964, hull was repurposed as a private leisure craft. Carved model hull from a chunk of pine wood.

Upper structure will be printed, CAD work progressing. Having to use a bit of artistic license as plans aren't terrific.

David terrorized the waters. (these are from David's videos he took - I just did screen grabs)
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Was that shot with an 808 cam or something else?

Andy, it is a 808 and he was using your camera holder I believe.

Yup. An 808 housed in Andy's magnificent little case:

I either use Andys streamlined u/w 808 case as a towed-body or strapped to the deck of a model submarine. It's a thin walled, GRP structure I modified to accept a stabilizing fin and tow pad-eye.

Note the lead weight. Used to statically stabilize the tow-body in roll. The ring stabilizer dynamically stabilizes the body in pitch and yaw.

Note Andy's use of a machined metal bayonet ring with O-ring to provide access to his u/w cases interior.

For those looking over our shoulders, this is a fine little cast resin u/w 808 enclosure produced by Tom Chalfant. I modified it with flexible 'buttons' to permit control of the camera once installed within.

I love seeing all this. I'm still here. Just dry docked with lack of a place to run subs with the exception of driving many miles to do so. I still have a few boats I truly love and will never part with. Bob didn't get them all. ;)

No, that's a 10A magnetically actuated 'mission switch' produced by Kevin McLeod and sold by Nautilus Drydocks. I love those things!

I understand there has been an upgrade and the new one is rated at 15A. Still, a very small footprint (takes up very little space within your WTC).

Don't know if Kevin has worked a distribution deal over there. Good luck. They save so much space, permit remote activation, and even have a resetting breaker if the current spikes above rating. Highly recommended.
