        Art imitating life, Bill.

Of all the r/c submarines I have driven, the STURGEON's (both 1/72 and 1/96) were the best behaved atop and under the water. Fast and snappy when called for; could almost maintain a circle chase against a like sized SKIPJACK -- in my world that speaks volumes.

More than just a better dressed out THRESHER! Yes, the STURGEON's were a bit slower, but so much better suited for a variety of cold-war tasks. The 637's were this nations go-to boats for sneaky-poo, hang-your-ass-out, crazy Intel ****. If there was a bad-guy submarine patrolling (in or out of Russian waters) you can bet there was a STURGEON sniffing its butt, rolling tape. Bastions be damned, those boats were in their house!

Periscope hull and running gear examinations, sound, and RF intercept a specialty (hence the big sail).

When operated by aggressive, smart Skipper's (true patriots who were not too worried about their long-term careers) driving those platforms we learned a lot about the Commie Russian capabilities and intentions.

Never served on one, but one of my favorites. I envy guys like Bill. What stories they could tell.

Yeah. Hope to use it as the video camera platform for this year's SubFest.

Not a hell of a lot of smoke with that tube. :)

I love this little 23. Actually for me it's the perfect size and it runs like a top in the water. Well worth all the effort and beautiful work you're putting into her.

I liked seeing something covered that I will eventually be working on.

But all the other things David covers is useful as well.

David, is this Type XXIII going to be run by you at SubFest?
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

The plan is to make this model my principle FPV-towed camera platform. Like how I used the 1/12th KAIRYU last event. Using the FPV camera to get the scene real-time so I can better close in on subjects and give them a much tighter stern chase than I could with the KAIRYU.

If time permits, I'll get your 808-camera u/w case online so I can use that at the event as well.
