Thats an about face I guess. I have read where the Japanese, during WW2 were real pigs in their boats. American officers wouldnt come on their boats, after the surrender until the bilges were pumped and cleaned(they used them as urinals).

Roger that on the nippon navy. On the other side of the coin, however. I was aboard a TGB (Turkish navy) Fleet sub, that we leased to them, back in the early 60s. Those boys were a Funkey bunch. I dont think they ever changed the OEM fart sacks on the racks since we gave them the boat after the war.

My dad maintained a lot of Turkish boats, either in Trincomallee or in Malta. I seem to recall they were older British boats gifted to them. He often talked about the greasy pipes they had to crawl into caused by the ingestion of copious amounts of olive oil.
