Thats exactly where the design came from. Actually I think you mean type XXI or XXIII, since the XXII boats production was canceled, but the Walter Propusion system boats were what the S571 was designed after with the nuke propulsion system added after conscruction was started. We had confiscated a few of the Walter Propulsion boats and commissioned them in the USN for study and de enginearing Heres one that ended up in Key West after the war till the early 60s when it finally became to expensive to operate. It was used as a target for the ASROC tests and sunk

U-571. Must be from the movie. I have this movie and I must say that there are some seens in it that I never get tired of watching. The one that comes to mind is where they just knocked out the radio aerial on the German Destroyer and are diving under it for cover. The underwater filming is just great.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

the real one has a much better story than Hollywood could ever make up. They should have told the real Enigma, shark code, story about 110 or the actual cruise of 571 during polkinschlag summer of 42. Actually that story is the basis for the book Im writing, which seems like an endless task at this point. The more research I dig up the more involved the story is getting.Comment
