They're water and pressure resistant containers for inflatable life rafts.

someone reversed the negative during the printing process. The Mine Dispensers are on the port side on a VIIC42 and the fwd external torpedeo storage access hatches are stbd The single inflatable life boat was stored next to the external torpedeo under the 4 larger hatches ajacent to the mines

vonhilde, the lifeboat and the external torpedo is interesting. Ive posted here pictures of my Revell type 7. It may not be the most accurate model in the world but its all that I got. Can you see or can you point out where the lifeboat or external tubes is at? Oh and by the way, pardon please all the dust, it comes with the territory. Thanks

ID:	66071 these 4 hatches access the sealed torpedeo storage cylinder, which tilts up from the rear, so it can be winched aft and inserted in the fwd torpedo loading hatch, which is located under the access hatch aft of the 4 torpedeo access hatches. The mine containers would normally be in place of the four square hatches on the port side in the picture of the U 570 with the torpedeo access hatches removed. These type of mine dispencers came on the later VIIc-2 boats like the 995. Altho the wt containers with that style hatch, were uses extensivley with all the boats, the mine dispensers had deeper containers to facilitate the mine/chain/anchorblock, than the ammo boxes on the wintergardens for the 37mm

ID:	66074 BTW that pic is of a VIIC-2 with the extra 37mm flakgshutz and schnorkle like the 995. It may be the one with all the mercury capsuls hidden in the keel off of Norway. Ive seen that pic before but dont remember if it was on TV or the Web.

I think most of the pictures in my saved pics have been from thumbs Ive found doing reserch for my paintings or models. Mainly saved for some particular detail, that Im working on, weather it be perspective of the subject or placement of equipment or color, not nessissarily clearity or focus.

that picture was taken in Key West where it ended up after a few years in New London where it was de enginered. We sank it during ASROC tests in the early 60s. There are a couple on the bottom a few miles from my house. The U 3008 was the other typeXXI
