Project 665 Whiskey long bin 1/50

Hi! This is a short presentation of the assembly and outfitting of the 1/50 Kit once produced by Mr. Lazar Kerzmann. I purchased it in 2018. It tourned out beeing the prototype that had been partially assembled by himself and soon was given to a fellow modeller who later returned it to Mr.Kerzmann. Originally build as a dry hull like the large old Engel kits, i am converting it into a wet hull with 2 dry compartments, a large snort balast tank, main drive and separate service battery, retractable bow planes, retractable masts. The pictures show the config with a small piston trim tank that will most likely not be installed finally. No newer pictures yet. The plane mechanism provided with the model was useless and had to be rebuild.

Not yet on show are the changes to the main compartment.i will delete the trim tank and its roller pump for saving space, mostly for safety concerns. That boat will have a slighly positive bouyancy, gollowing Bob's suggestions about large boats in his book. Will also shorten the compartment. The pre-installed stern tubes were cut free from the surrounding epoxy with a specially self-made cirkular saw and shortened a lot more, too. This helps moving the balast tank further to the boats centre. The gear for the rudder has been replaced with a normal rudder lever.

    Unique boat. I love it!

I have the molds for this boat now and they're going to end up with Loyalhanna in the coming weeks. Should still be available through me once we get the site updated in a few weeks.

The hull is familiar, but I’ve never seen a sail like that. Cool boat.
Of the approximately 40,000 men who served on U-boats in WWII, it is estimated that around 28,000 to 30,000 lost their lives.

WHISKEY hull with a 'long bin' sail housing cruise missiles. A carrier killer. Supplanted by the ECHO's.

Followed by the JULIETTS. 665 was a whiskey with a new mid-section containing the enlarged sail for four launchers for P5 missiles. Boat was too slow submerged / 12kts and according to several sources, VERY loud.

Lazar Kerzmann had a build report on a russian forum, showing how he made the master, the hull halves, and assembly of the model. He intended to install four launch tubes from stainless steel, but later sealed, filled, saded and primed all the openings he cutoff the sail prior to selling the boat to me. I admire the ability of Ruissians to design every bit of elegance out of a submarine...

Did he intend to make the launchers functional (pyrotechnically) ?

Yup. Every bit of function of the launchers was to be at display. You'd look for the 651 juliett he made, search on youtube

I have never seen that kind of boat before. Very unusual looking and a very good job.
