    Variable Ballast Tank

Can an active variable ballast system like a water pump or piston be used for changing depth in lieu of dynamic surfaces ( dive planes)? Guess you'll still need active pitch control for any longitudinal instability.

Can the KMC Depth Cruiser be used to control such variable ballast system? Using an ESC controlled pump instead of a servo controlled dive planes.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

This is for those early submarines that lack proper dive planes or had anemic ones.

      Romel,

My observation! I think yes that a ballast system could be used in the place of dive planes! If the boat was weighted properly and with 2 ballast systems one more towards the bow and one to the stern and were independent of each other as to operation, and then speed would have to be involved to a certain degree as well.

I would sure like to have some STL files on that sub!!

Meant to be a static cut away model with one side open to show interior. Maybe it would be possible to play around with the files to print a mirror image of the starboard side to make a full hull. Going back to my first question, using a variable ballast tank instead of dive planes to change depth - see video.

                  Just leaves the 2nd question.
Can the depth cruiser control a variable ballast system?

I would imagine it all depends on how many amps are required to change the displacement. A simple vent and blow, I'd say sure -but a screw jack system would need a go between relay or servo (operative words are " I would Imagine")...BG

Wow Rob, love it! It has "Steampunk" written all over it! This would have fit right in as a Sub in the old, graphic adventure/puzzle video game, "Myst".

                      Very cool.

There actually was a sub on rails in myst III-exile.

Loved those games, until they had a 3d-environment...

                            Thanks for the info Romel!

I did see this on CGtrader, and can now see a possible way to print a submarine here! I could print two halves to go together to form up a complete hull! WOW! Yes, this would work! I think it would be worth the $98.00 to get these files. I would not only attempt to build a full operational submarine, but also build the kit as designed as a model.

WOW! Here we go! Thanks again Romel!

                              Ed,

In some respects, you and I really think alike! You like stepping outside the box with your building subs and for sure when it comes to the radio systems that you have set up. I can really feel a cool build here!
