Submersible Tragflugelboot. Plan was to wait in submerged mode. Once the enemy was in range ballast tanks were blown and high speed attack and subsequent evasion was done on the surface.

Here's something I wish Manfred made.

ID:	187966 Rudolf Engelmann's Versuch Schnellboot 5 (Experimental Fast Boat 5 or VS 5) also known as Engelmann-boot, a semi-submersible, fast-attack torpedo boat for use in coastal waters. Armament consisted of two forward-firing, 21 in (533 mm) torpedo tubes in the bow and two 20 mm cannons atop the superstructure.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

David, going back to the XXIII. From after the boat was completed, what problems did you encounter while running the boat and what were your corrective actions? This would be helpful for me and others going forward. Was it weight distribution, foam, dive plane issues, other issues? You mentioned to me at Subfest the CG was just aft of the front of the sail. We got cut short from the weather for me to take a detailed look at the boat.

Severe pitch oscillations when dived. Initial placement of the c.g. and c.b. was at the hulls mid-point -- as you noted, that put the c.g. and c.b. at the sails leading edge. I then moved the c.g. and c.b. forward four-inches. No joy. This weekend I'm moving the c.g. and c.b. back four-inches aft of the sails leading edge. Film at Eleven.

Of the approximately 40,000 men who served on U-boats in WWII, it is estimated that around 28,000 to 30,000 lost their lives.

                              David,
So you're took up the gauntlet to get the XXIII to run good, made a usefull observation at Gangelt Germany, was running my XXIII and during higher speeds she took the plunge to the bottum, steering divingplanes full down, i could see that because it was inside clear water at the swimmingpool, i wonder i it has something to do with the AFD with higher speeds.
To my surprice the XXI ran great without a ADF, i want to remove the ADF from the XXIII to see if that will give the same results as with the type XXI in handling underwater, i'll report back with the results.

                              Manfred.
                              I went underground

I'm all ears, Manfred. I'm completing the re-trim of my Type-23 tonight -- this third change of the boats c.g.-c.b. about seven inches aft of the initial c.g.-c.b. position, which was, when first operated, at the boats longitudinal mid-point. Open water test this Sunday. Film at Eleven, my friend.
