The two forward missile hatches were separate from the rest which were engraved. After glueing the two hatches flush with the deck I was compelled to re-scribe the hatch outline, which left a scared deck needing fill. Also, I actually drilled vent holes atop each missile hatch as that would be better looking than the lightly engraved circles provided on the kit part. Some of those needed filling. So... I said, what the hell, and puttied all the hatches for symmetries sake.

Would have been great if Trumpeter made all the hatches separate pieces for static displays.

I've seen a Trumpeter test shot of a version of this kit with all missile hatches open.

You must be pertaining to the HobbyBoss kit not Trumpeter. 1/350 scale. Click image for larger version

That's what I get for making an assumption. Yes, you're right: two different kits with different scales. My bad.

ID:	186524 I did however saw a photo of the Type 94 Jin class SSBN, successor to the Xia class showing the holes on top of the missile hatches arranged in a radial pattern.

What are the chances those on the Type 092 are layed out in a similar pattern?

Don't know. Went with Trumpeter's interpretation. There are subtle differences (and a few not-so-subtle) between the 092 and 094 class.

With most projects these days -- with the clock hands ever closer to 12 -- I tend to be less anal retentive, and more pragmatic. Not yet totally useless, but not the sharpe tool I used to be.

CB Progressing. First CB Midget sub test. scale off, 3/4 inch too short. Second one adjusted up to 1/32 scale. Overall length will be 18.25 inches (463.55 mm). Print time 16 hours. New one printing now will take 20 hours for these two hull halves.

                      Enough detail Davd?

Going with a vertical hull separation?

No, the plan by Merriman is a waterline separation unless he changes mind.

Will see how second print to correct scale is for overall length check. Expected to know this evening. If bang on, then will print other components. A lot of gentle sanding will come next & then priming. Sanding to remove the striation chatter I call it. Normal for this. Others that have contributed to this, big thanks.

In meantime, dabbling with colors. Two schemes seem apparent. A straightforward medium gray waterline up and light green below. Also, a more dazzle like scheme to confuse outline. Anyone know the official colors of Regia Marina camouflage for Italian submarines in WW2? Specifically, the CB's.?

Adjusted the color emulsion tint and warmth using the skin tones and fortunately an Italian flag also present as a useful convenient shade comparison in photo 2. Color chips my best guess. Ultimately it maybe all jut academic, as I use rostellum colors usually covered with a clear flat as Bob Martin points out is very durable.

The top photo here amuses me. Midget sub simplicity using the normal background fishing boats to blend in from air reconnaissance. Lol. It works.

The hull tool will consist of a five-piece rubber tool for the stern (capturing the horizontal and vertical stabilizers in one homogenous hollow resin casting). Like this:

and a three-piece mother-glove tool for the lower hull (one piece) and upper hull (two piece). A bit like this:
