Do you use night vision goggles? If not then whats the purpose of being there at night if you cant see? Youd do more good sitting and watching from the radar console downstairs.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

The purpose of beeing there was to skip the ship and, if it's was the case, manoeuver to avoid collisions or running aground. There are no intense lights at night out there, so you can clearly see other ships's navigational lights (they tell you where is her bow and what side are the showing), light beacons, light houses and so on No night googles needed because you have to see and identify that lights. And transiting places like Gibraltar Strait, English Channel or US southern coast in the Gulf of Mexico at night, requires a lot attention at the bridge cause they can be as crowded as Broadway at peak hours. Nowdays, due to GPS use, everybody uses almost the same waypoints, so you can meet other ships in the middle of the atlantic right on your bow on collision course, so you have to keep permanent watch at the bridge even in the midlle of nowhere.Comment
