Here is the tail of the Japanese Soryu X Tail. Same name as the Japanese aircraft carrier of Pearl Harbor fame. Isnt it interesting that a single move can make you famous. Then later , "What Goes Around...Comes Around".Click image for larger version

Soryu means, The Blue and Green Dragon, in Japanese. The dragon is the symbol of power/authority/striength/wisdom. The colors of the dragon are significant. Blue dragons indicate they are from the west, green dragons are relitively smaller than the other color dragons.

Roddersuk, looking at these pictures of the Oxley, its easy to see what you were saying about the picture on page 74. I often wonder how the poster of the original picture would incorrectly list those details.

Thanks for those kind words Greenman. That is a very nice pic of Oxley with her fore planes rigged for dive.

Built in the early 60s with the high speed surface craft design from the 30s type weather bow. Looks almost the same as U 995 from the same angle, except for 6 tubes and dive planes

"Weather Bow" is the term for the "flaired chines" of the gunnels above the weather deck. The weather deck being the deck at the bow. It diflects the spray away from the bow wake in heavy seas. In the case of the Ovens, it was most likely a way to improve the hydro dynamics of that humungus sonar under water, rather than primarily a surface sprey.

Thanks Von Hilde. In the movies I have heard of the term used but never researched it. Thanks.

looks like a couple rubber tiles fell off amidships. Ingenious how they incorperated the digi cammo pattern in the tiles. Most effective cammo pattern to date.

Better lloking crew with full dress than the sailor astern with shorts and long black socks. I've seen them that way at Port Victoria (Sheychelles) and is simply ... let's say curious.

British Submarines are painted in black bitumen including tiles, the pattern is not deliberate it is called weathering
