Getting back to the the 640 class boat, I'm pretty sure the yard is Mare Island but I don't know which boat it is. Where did you find the picture?

If I remember correctly, I believe it was Navsource. Not sure.

It's the USS Mariano G. Vallejo, SSBN658. A crop of the picture shows a sombrero on the sail. I remember seeing the picture while researching my model of the USS Will Rogers, SSBN659. The sail from 658 was on display at Mare Island the last time I was there for a visit.

A RMMV what? See.....you know about stuff like that. All I know is that its a new fangled contraption thats run with IC chips and microprocessor circuitry thats prone to breakdown bigtime. Its probably got 10 computers where it really needs only one or less. 100 hours of maintanance for every 60 seconds of operation. Thats the direction the world is going in.He's on his favorite

I agree with you. Last week I saw a report about the new LCS of the US Navy, and one of them spent three days testing the famous RMMV. Must see commander's face when contractors inform him about the troubles they are experimenting with the prototype. Finally they performed a very restricted test and said everything was really good but, as you say, this kind of things tend to be extremely prone to failures due to the enormous ammount of microprocessors and computers they need to work, And yes, a lot of maintenance for very little operation time.
