To prove to you guys that Im not an armchair quarterback I have to keep up my builders thread. Installing these vent grates is a chalenge not only because the factory dapped out areas with a built in shelf are too small but also of note is that they are not in a straight line and they are not straight with each other. So once you have a good fit you need to bend each one in a slight curve so that they will conform to the curve of the hull. Get them straight and flush and then hit them very carefully with thin CA.Last edited by greenman407; 07-01-2011, 12:38 PM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

I think that the easiest way to do it is to lay it over on its side so that you are not fighting gravity.

Now we need to fill in around the edges. If I use a two part system then I will be forever mixing and running out of workable fresh material. So I bought some more of this single part Bondo spot putty. I put it on with a small screwdriver tip, let it harden, then sand it down and feather it in.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Oh yea, that's a project in itself. However, the end result puts a real nice touch on the overall build. The nuke boats are for the most part pretty straight forward in design, and the inclussion of hatches, vents and torpedo tube doors to the exterior hull along with a nice paint job and some detailed weathering can obviously make a significant difference in the models appearance, IMO anyway. Nice job, Mark.Comment

This is what I am trying to reproduce on the grates. Although this picture is of grates on a Delta, I believe that they are the same thing.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Turns out that the Krylon Pimento color has dried too much like pale light orange. Its not red enough. So last night I bought a can of Krylon Banner Red. I sprayed a test piece and let it dry. This morning I looked at it and it seems more to my liking. So, the next chance I get I will lightly sand the pimento painted areas and mask and spray over it the Banner Red.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

I hope that I can stay motivated long enough to finish this thing before I feel the need to start on one of the other projects.Safety rail was on Saturdays agenda.
Using the supplied scale drawings, I used a pencil to draw there locations out on the model so that I could follow it uniformally and that there would be no visible difference to the eye from one side to the other. There are bends up and down and left and right. So that I wouldnt make a mess with my thin CA I used this:
These are nozzle ends and small dia. hose. By using this on your CA bottle you can better control how much you put out.

This drawing shows the rescue bouy marker. Ill have to make one of these. Ill start with a plastic washer at 3/4" dia. Then ill apply some two part stiff apoxy to the top of it , than shape and sand it down to shape. Unless somebody has one already????????..........IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment
