    1/120 Akula

    Hi all,

Just want to show my first 3D printed Akula in 1/120 scale. Watertight compartments using waterproof junction boxes for the main engine room, ballast and battery compartment. Diving system utilizing Snort system with windshield pump. Also installed an airplane gyro for the level panes. Currently test system with 2.4ghz radio only. Below some pictures of progress. All comments welcome!

Nicely done! An not so common layout, yet tested in the water?
interested on sering more progress of your build, mloo123!

    Thumbs up!

      Hello there. Thanks for comments.

Concept deprived from the old skool dry hull method. What I liked is the ease of maintenance and thus came out with the junction box idea.

Yes I have done some water testing at home at waterline trim and static diving and it seems working well keeping water out so far!

How's your Papa class boat built? I'm following up your progress as well. Maybe will add that to my next project as they were of same scale.

          mioo123!

Very nice work. I am impressed with your 3D workmanship, and the WTC engineering!

Am modifiing the assembly jig currently to make shaft and plane installation easier. Am simultaniously switching between the PAPA and a large 1/50 Whiskey long bin. Need to set up my ZB 1/2, too. The build reports are always behind current state.

            Stay tuned for updates!

              Jorg,

Your PAPA class boat is a real piece of workmanship! I went back and looked at your work, you certainly have the weathering process down!

Where did you buy the boxes? Those should fit nicely into a 1/96 boat. Lastly, how did you bond them to the hull?

                    Sorry Jorg!

My newness to the hobby has reared its ugly heat again! None-the-less, it's beautiful looking boat and it shows your craftsmanship!

                      Hi rwtdiver,

                      Thanks for your comments.

Its camera effects which makes the 3D hull looks good and in fact not so under the human eye...

For the WTC, i found it`s much easier to work with!

                        Hi Das Boot,

You can get these boxes for example here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000852737997.html

But im pretty sure you can get them cheaper in your local hardware shop, which i did for mine. Yes. a 1/96 scale boat should have enough room to fit them if they have a min 105-110mm ID beam width. i`m currently using 180 x 80 x 70 box for the engine compartment. Initially planned for direct 540size motor but changed to 380 geared for smaller footprint. These boxes will be perfect for twin screws boats like the Typhoon Papa and Oscar class submarines.

And lastly, I haven`t decided how to securely mount the boxes onto the bottom hull yet. Its either the rubber band strap down or permanently epoxied methods. Cons for the latter is you can`t add additional port holes onto the box base for upgrades in the future tho.

Hi, you may find it here: https://blog.naver.com/tiver21/221817524156

Point to note on the complete stern piece. It turned out approximately 2-3mm short facing towards the bow. Its better to modify the file before print.
