Towards the end, she was a 'Special Projects' boat. A fake DSRV was set over the after escape trunk hatch. In reality it was a long-term Diver decompression compartment. Those 'fins' are foundations for that compartment, removed here.
SEAWOLF was tied up briefly in Guam while my boat, the DANIEL WEBSTER, was getting ready for patrol. From a distance it looked like a DSRV up there, but pier-side, it was obviously a facade for something else within. Only recently did I get the (near) full story on what it was all about. At that time the SEAWOLF (equipped with external lateral, depth, and yaw thrusters) was playing games against Russian bottom mounted 'assets'. Spooky stuff indeed.

I SPY the nuclear powered Seawolf. Whats the deal with these protrusions? Are they a form of Puffs or some form of stablizer.

prity good size dingie, at least 6-8pax, wood and heavy, as it has to have an old hand crank davit to launch. Looks like a special aplication for a spacific mission. Somebody is going ashore where the sub cant access due to draft or compromising the effort, would be my guess.Leave a comment:

Its the access hatch to get the big ass transducer in and out. If it was an escape hatch it would be smaller and strategicly placed where the crews compartments and work centers are. IMHOLeave a comment:

I SPY a Barbel! The big hole on the top of the bow, I assume is the opening for the escape hatch??

I blew up the photo 300%. There are three men in the black area, and I reckon there is a door there. Probably frozen up and they're melting the ice with a blow torch.Leave a comment:

I SPY an unidentified submarine. What is that on the deck? A small boat?Leave a comment:

An open door or hatch from the pressure hull into the forward section of the sail is open. Hot air from the compartments has melted the ice-snow from where the hot-air has hit the superstructure.
Ever wonder why the topside guys huddle around an open hatch in cold weather?
Trust me, I know!

I SPY what appears to be a chunk missing out of a sail. I wonder what would cause that. It appears to me that the sail is made of GRP or something, considering the way it fractured. What do you think?
