Other than the lathe, band-saw, drill press, bench grinder, sanding and milling machines I prefer to maneuver the tool, not the work.
Eye protection?!.....

I think I need a cold shower. Another the chapter in the annals of Sub Assesmbly coming together.
And to think this is done boys and girls using a plastic vac formed kit as the back bone of the project.
I was going to wait for the GRP version and retire the kit I have to the back shelf but I think I'll be getting on this soon.
I like the kiddy pool David, but you'd think after all these years that the Virginia Beach skunk works would have a purpose built test tank.
Is that kiddies pool deep enough for a static dive test?John Slater

Think of that before your buy "cheap" pirated goods or download others work protected by copyright. Theft is theft.

I've gone with Skip's old kit just to serve as a mule to proof the fit of the 'new' stern, sail, propeller, yokes, SubDriver and some other items that will go into the eventual Caswell-Merriman 1/60 GRP-resin ALBACORE kit.
Sure, that sows ear can be turned in to a silk purse (Bono!) -- but much work is required to make that transformation. Something, by the way, John, you could pull off.
Anyway -- as you can see I've qualified the 'new' 3" SD in this thing. Works like a charm. Well along getting the model trimmed out. Will finish that task tomorrow morning. Maybe there will be time to take it to the local Dive Shop pool for some video. We'll see.

Im loving it. Dave, before you put it in the large swimming pool, any predictions on how you think that the sail rudder will work? I would think that it would cause the hull to rotate about its axis.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Watch out for the soft sides on the test tank they do not like props running into them........
Oh wait, only dummies do that. You will be fine.If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.Comment

Well, Mark, just got back from the local Dive Shop pool, and the ALBACORE performed very well.
Started out with 30% throttle, each end. Later in the session I got crazy and took things to 50% both ends. Wow!
With the dorsal rudder active I had to learn how to do high speed submerged turns all over again -- I initially involuntarily cranked in too much 'rise' on the planes in the turns to compensate for what (in any other boat) I would expect: a rolling boat turning the hard-over rudder into dive planes at 'dive'. However, on this Ride, the dorsal rudder negated the roll and I had to un-learn the 'up planes' normally needed to counter the diving-turn.
Damn this boat turns sweet! And response to stern and bow planes is immediate a sure.
No water in the SD. Got video above and below the surface. And this beast is ready for paint!

Tom Chalfant is a frig'n genius. So is Andy, Mark, Al, Kevin, Chuck, Manfred, Skip Asay and a few others .... oh! Me too!
The rest of you kinda suck, but show some promise.
Proof of Tom's genius is this neat cast resin, two-piece 808 video camera watertight housing. He was kind enough to share a copy of this thing with me. He did so a couple of months ago. Now, needing a video study of the 1/60 ALBACORE dorsal rudder effects on roll attitude, it comes in handy.
I modified it a bit so I can turn the little HD video camera (a wonderful thing in itself!) on and off without breaking into the case or removing the assembly from the back of the model submarine. I modified one of the plugs to serve as a pressure fitting -- so I can validate watertight integrity of the case.
Thanks, Tom!
