As I recall, there were several cooks, The Master Chief ran the galley and sat at his desk with all the coffee cups on it. The Senior Chief ran the Bakery and was all by himself in a seperate comartment with a messcook and a striker, The Chief ran the kitchen with a striker and a bunch of messmen who actually did the work, then the first Class ran the messdeck and the Scullery. Of course that was a rather large organisation that had to feed a large mass of hungry sailors. Just think, You could be sitting at that desk dreaming up menues with your feet propped up.....with the SOUP in the cup. and the cats in your lap.
