    The "TURTLE" Submarine Build

Click image for larger version Name:	TURTLE 1.jpg Views:	0 Size:	16.3 KB ID:	168472

This project will be a 3D printed working model of the 1775 "TURTLE. This will be another in a series of boats that I am building that show the progress that has been made building submarines over the years!
Tha Turtle was for sure one of the first!

Tonight, I have started the build on the Turtle.

Click image for larger version Name:	TURTLE 2.jpg Views:	0 Size:	58.7 KB ID:	168474

The main hull of the Turtle is made up of two sections. The section that is printing now is the right side. It is an 18.5 hour print.

I took a short video while I was setting up more files for the build. I really enjoy watching WW ll movies on my computer.

Hey Rob, there will be no judgment on the video here ... Unfortunately it shows as being private.. I would love to see it ... You probably just need to select the public option in the video settings.

        Thank you Bob!

I will go into my YouTube channel and make that correction. I unlocked the link, but I did not go public with it. (It's that BAD)

I took another video of the Turtle!

          https://youtu.be/urtQrwSgStc

It shows the progress being made on the lift side section of the main hull. The right side section is next to print.

The detail on this boat is exceptional! This one of the two half hull sections.

The bottom portion of the boat which actually is where part of the ballast system is located and the support stand for the boat.

The hull sections really printed out very good. I still have a number of accessory parts to print out to complete the basic model.

After looking at the interior, I really see no reason why I could not make the Turtle operational, with a ballast system!! So now we are off to the drawing board to see what can be done.

                        Rob,

How big is the model? It doesn't look like there is much room in there to play...

                          Rob,
In the early 2000's, Big Dave Welch had an operational Turtle at the SubRegattas in Rhode Island. There are videos on YT, search under The Sub Committee. Dave explained all about the innards he used and there is some footage of it running in the pond.

Also, the 'bomb' was detachable. Like this model would suggest:

                              Bob,

The Turtle turned out to be 9" tall, the length 7" and the beam 3.5". Not much room for a dive system!? I really like the one you showed us on Dive Tribe today. I am looking forward to your 3D print files if you decide to put them up.

                              wlambing,

Thank you very much for the information as to the operational Turtle! I will certainly look that up!

                              David,

Thank you very much for the photo. That's how the Turtle should really look like! The files that I used where really set up for a interior static model (allowance for a hinge set up) and not so much true realism.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate the information and input.
