Thanks, Steve. As you well know, a model-builder can never have too much documentation.

This is the MASK facility where we did most of the ALLIGATOR underwater shots for a TV show.

That show, an episode for the Discovery Science Channel, here:

Wow!!! Just when you thought you knew what an awesome model was - then David blows your mind with this!!! Absolutely fascinating and intriguing story, photos, and video. Thank you for posting and educating. Holy Moly.

While filming the miniatures at the David Tailor site we used both the MASK tank for the dark, no background shots; and then went to an artificial lake called the 'explosives evailuation basin' for underwater shots requiring and interesting background -- those round mound looking things are there to redirect conclusive explosions shock-waves during 'destructive testing' of exact scale submarine models. They literally blow up model submarines at that site. Not so much in these days of fluid dynamic simulations at a key stroke.

That's what I'm looking at here: one of the test-articles damaged in some long ago test of a model GATO/BALAL/TENCH type hull. This model, sitting in a corner of the test basin perimeter, is detailed right down to compartmentation, frame geometry and spacing, shell plating, and other analog to structures found on the real boats.

And here are more shots at that outdoor pool-of-pain:

I think the proper word is concussive.

the results of the test might be conclusive providing definitive data about the effect of the explosion on the test model.

Just sharing a similar ongoing CB 20 build by Mark Jones using the 3D printed hull directly.

the main tube is 2 inches in diameter, 7 inch long.
from left to right; ESC, battery below, servos, receiver on top, ballast tank, finally the motor.

Is this file out there for download? I've seen a CB render that look great, but I don't think it's downloadable- https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/cb-c...f59bb891517eb3

Another which is downloadable but looks awful https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game...int-model-1-72

A variation on the theme, not such nice lies as the CB- https://www.carlocestra.com/3dmodels...arine_edit.php

Steven Reichmuth (Albacore569) is the common denominator between David and Mark's CB20s.

Okay it’s a personal file. I wasn’t after one, just wondered where it had originated.

Gantu in Germany gave me permission to use his files. Stipulation was if Merriman built copies for me, David and one or two others (including Jim Butt who has had a lifelong desire to have one of these subs in a model too) and one for Gantu too himself. I have copies of the files but not allowed to share, you have to contact Gantu. The sketchlab 3 d rendering is beautiful, but as far as I know it will not translate into a STL file. for resin or other 3 d printing.

I would love to build a 1/32 scale model of the American L-class of WW1 used for ASW anti U-boat patrols out of Ireland in that era 1917-1919. Randy Sanders was given detailed drawings to use, but sadly Randy wrote back he is unable to figure out how to render & program the bow area. So that was a big disappointment there. It would have been my first American submarine in this new format.

Maybe someday I can figure out a way to make a USS AL-4 before 'I'm planted'.

Anyone have ability to make a STL file on USS AL-4 would be great. But am very happy to be fortunate ot have CB midget- glass 3/4 full. So counting my blessings. AL-4 would be 62 inches long in 1/32. I loved David's impression of the CB-subs. "Very organic looking".
