You should definitely go with the TC-5050 or atleast use a PVC barrier.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

I'll take your recommendations under advisement.

Ha...that's my technique to get a straight, good edge as well. Have to set the threaded inserts on my parting planes next.

Ellie usually answered such a demand with, "you're the big-shot model-builder, round-eye... make it yourself!"

Such a nice size. Will you be using external linkages on the tail surfaces? Im trying to figure out how you will tackle those.

Yeah. You're right. Just too tight at 1/96 scale to place the horns internally. I'll place the rudder horn at the bottom and the stern plan horn on the bottom of the planes and will use a 1/32" diameter pushrod, pickled to 'blend in' with the adjacent structure and hope no one notices too much all the mechanics back there begging for some arm-chair model-builder to posit clever ideas that would correct my shortcomings.

                            I did this linkage nightmare for a 1/72 Types-23 -- pure abuse!

I get PTSD looking at those tight spaces and thinking of packing all that sh*t in.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Yeah. When an enjoyable hobby turns into awful self-abuse.
