Personally, I think that if it is true that MTronics sourced cheap parts in China and caused the accident, then most of the blame can only be placed on MTronics. The fact is that in China there are both good and bad quality products, you get what you pay for and it is almost impossible to get good quality products at a cheap price. Those companies choose cheap Chinese parts instead of high quality Chinese parts in order to make a profit, which is unwise and bad for the customer, and gives the customer the bad impression that there are no good products made in China. I've seen hundreds of ESCs on Taobao in China, and there are many good quality ESC brands, most of which are more expensive. Long story short, there are many good products in China, depending on whether you are willing to spend money or not, many of the cheaper things are of poor quality.

Good obvious points. Basically, to improve the margin of profit you keep your labor and materials costs as low as possible. The ideal is to produce a high-quality item. But if you do that then only a few can afford to buy and you're out of business.

Mtroniks has been in business a long time, so they know how to maintain a margin that keeps them in the game. And that means their 'buyer' has to skate along that razors-edge of buying the cheapest parts possible that will still perform good enough to warrant continued sales of the end product. The trick is to ensure that either the company buyer has a high level of achievement in electrical engineering and knows the many sources out there, or he's well plugged in with the Mtronik Engineering staff who will counsel him on what will and will not work in a specific application.

And the company has to be operating an aggressive quality-control program to ensure that line assembly as well as finished product will meet the company minimum performance standards.

The Bean-Counters over there have determined what failure-rate of product, in the customers hands, will be tolerated by the market and still retain customer loyalty of the majority of said customers. That's how they stay in business -- make it cheap, and make it work... most of the time.

For what it's worth: I have used Mtronik ESC's for about 20-years. A few of their ESC's have gone nuclear on me (got a burn scare to show for it), but I plan to continue using the things. I'll continue to dance with the Devil I know and love/hate. I'm too old and tired to swing into the fast lane.

How did you get the internal contour?

I installed the WTC, then lofted a plastic template to represent the annular space between WTC and hull. That template used to mark off foam blanks that where then cut to outline, forming the floatation pieces sandwiched between WTC and hull. The foam pieces were hot glued to the inside of the hull.

Sweet, but a question. Is that 3 wood for an antenna?

                                OTFLMAO!!!

I never even thought of that 'hand-of-God' thing while checking the field-of-view, and depth-of-field while the system was underwater. Leave it to a hard-core SF nut like you to dig out that old ST chestnut, Steve!

Yeah. I missed a trick by not violently rocking the model back and forth at the end of the video.

Here's a related video, just for you, pal: https://youtu.be/CxfA5d2L0BA
