I love "The Great Race"! It's one of my favorites. And building one of Fate's vehicles is always in the back of my mind, his submarine, his car, or his rocket sled would be so cool on the shelf in 3D.

during the fowl weather conditions they store the Regulas aboard the Intreppid on the hanger deck with all the aircraft that can fit, and secure the ship. A few of the larger aircraft won't fit so they are chained to the deck redundantly, same goes for the Yorktown in Charleston and Midway in San Diego. I know these by fact, but assume the same procedure for all military display aircraft. NAS Key West has several museum pieces thar have been securely attached to concrete stands, and have weathered several hurricanes over the years. During hurricane Georges, the A-6 Intruder display lost the major part of the lexan canopy. The option to repair with a replacement from Davis Monthan AFB bone yard, which there several hundred, in the field, was not cost effective, to get one. So, NAS aircraft maintainance dept stuck in a piece of aluminium, painted white, and then painting the rest of the glass white. While the military bases have a monuments department, maintainance of the pieces don't have a budget, like the big museums with private funding.
