Yep! Thats what I thought, Thanks Guys for the quick response. I see Dave had the same Idea. Story of my life, a day late and 2 dollars short.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Idea! Grease it up with some vaseline and fill in with rtv/silicone rubber and wrap with
aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Then you might have removable plugs after the rubber
has cured and you remove the wrap. The wrap is thought to help mold the top side.
Might have to remove the wrap for it to cure though.

I may be wrong, but it's doubtful you will find that exact brand in Aus. You can't get it in the UK, but you can get something equally good, made by 3M called acryl red, and that is what I use.
They do something similar in Aus, called blade putty, also by 3M-
I find ebay is now the best way to get this sort of thing.Comment

Don't obsess on the details, damit. Finish and get your SKIPJACK's wet!
Slacker's!
Make it pretty later.
(Andy's right, the 3M stuff is fine for this work as well)

John as Andy mentioned eBay is the only source that I've found. I did get from super cheap a nitrosan type of blade filler, from memory I think it was the septone brand. Might be good for cars but it's not great for plastics. I generally use the tamiya putty, yes David it's a whimpy model putty but it dries hard, sands well and you can thin it with lacquer thinners for those small annoying scratches and seamsThe small down side is that it has a shrink factor when drying and you really need to key some abs types. I have found it sticks like baby poo to a blanket on my fibreglass Akula and it plays well with turbo bog as well as lacquer, enamel and acrylic paints n primers.Cheers,
Alec.

HWSNBN, on page 6 of the instructions, it is stated, "Punch out 7/16" diameter holes in the centers of the six ballast tank vents on the forward deck flat." Im assuming that it is meant, perhaps 7/64ths? ThanksIT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Good catch, Mark. Yes, 7/64", not 7/16". I'll get on to Mike and have him change it. Thanks, pal.

Andy and Alec - thanks for the putty tips.
Alec I use the white Tamiya putty too on plastics.

All the air dry putties have a high shrinkage factor. They have a solvent base so it's inherent in the design.
The three products i have standardized on are Upol Fantastic, a two part polyester filler which comes in a bag rather than a tin which keeps it fresh, and makes it easy to dispense. Dolphin glaze a two part polyester glazing putty, basically a thinner version of fantastic, but with this you can actually brush it on. 3M acryl red I use for sanding scores, file marks etc.Comment

Very nice build. I have had my Skipjack since Dec, and should start build shortly. This site will be a big help. HWSNBN let me drive his a year ago during a elite fleet demo. And since then I have built several RC boats for practice, now ready to attempt sub.US Submarine Force: Making the Navy worthwhile since 1900Comment
