Such magnificent detailing work on the 212. I am and have always been so impressed with the level of detail that David puts into all his builds. Manfred also builds with the same respect to and authenticity to his work.

Well thank you for that Rob. Very kind. But, to be honest, modern submarines offer the true model-builder little in the way of 'fiddley-details' to show off ones real Craftsmanship. Here is a collection of model builds we did that show off our true craftsmanship:

              The effects miniature? No.

This particular model was built up from a small-scale plastic model kit. However, my research was flawed as the front end, particularly around the windows, were supposed to be facetted surfaces, not compound curves as I depicted it. Damn! That job was for a fan-boy collector.

                David,
I went through all 90 plus photos. They brought back some SCI-FI memories for me. The electronic cabinets, fantastic! I have been following your work on the Nautilus Drydocks forum for years and seen some of the work that you and Elie did, but having all these pages all in one run here is great. My wife loves all your work as well. Everyday when I hit our forum here, she always asks, what is David up to.. (LOL :-))

Thanks for posting these great photos David, you are an inspiration for sure...

                  Thanks.

I, of course, was first inspired by individuals and institutions:

My Dad, Loren Perry, Nick Burge, Norbert Bruggen, Ron Perrott, Skip Asay, Brother Otto, Dave Weeks, Dave Copeland, Dennis DeBoer, Jim Christley, Sheperd Paine, Mike Minor, the Lydecker brothers, Rolf Klep, Tom Sherman, Ben Guenther, Mike Dorey, Starlog and Future magazines, Bob Martin, Johann Sauer, Collier's and the Viking Press, Forrest Ackerman, Challenge Publications, Fred Ordway, Ron Miller, Kelly Freas, Fred Freeman, Ted Taley, Chesley Bonestell, Ray Mason, Greg Jein, and so many others. (And my apologies if I butchered the spelling of some names).

Oh... and I almost forgot the most important of all: Bob Skotak, who had the guts to tell us we were both unsuited to work in the effects miniature game (much to Ellie's barely contained glee and my profound disappointment), as he closed the last page of our resume, handed me back the binder, then looked us both in our eyes and made his pronouncement.

The rest, as they say, is history.

                  David

What size was that Holland boat, Dave, and do you still have the tools for it?

All tooling was lost in the flood. About four foot. Built for a museum display.

Bigger than I thought. Fair old blimp at that size, still a shame the tools were lost.

The house flooded while we were at a regatta out of State. Came back to a mess. Lots of stuff in the sheds were washed away -- the authorities would not let anyone back to their properties till the water receded, that took a week. By then, a lot of damage was done and things out and out lost.

That kind of **** will test your metal!

It just occurred to me -- I've been bloviating all over Manfred's thread, effectively hijacking it from the intended subject matter.

                            My apologies, Manfred.

From this point on let's all keep it focused to the real topic here: The 212 submarine model.

David, no problem, at least i've seen pictures that are unknown to me, the 212 build was ended anyway, the model itself was sold a few years ago, i wonder if it's still in running order, it was a nice model to build, a bit small, but i've ran it with pleasure and no issue's at all.

                              Manfred.

Thank you, Manfred; you are most gracious.

I now have your little Type-212 in hand. Bought it from Kim Sleep, perhaps the guy you were dealing with initially. I have studied your work, sir (in the voice of George Patton: "You magnificent *******!... I read your BOOK!!!).

Some of your wonderful model-building tricks found within that hull and modified SD; and that torpedo launcher!! Wow.

You, once again, took me back to school.

                                Your faithful understudy,
