    Thank you David and Fredrik. Maybe i did not express myself correctly. I know how the flaps/covers work, but i do not know if they were open when the boat operated submerged the way you can see in the pictures of the surfaced vessel. From the Mike, Charlie etc. I know the covers would split open, the plane would extend and then they would be closing, only letting the plane shaft pass through a circular opening. I believe the flaps should be closed when the bow planes are extended, and they are simply open in the pictures to prevent jamming in case there would be ice on the mechanism in arctic waters.

      Thanks for the input men. Tom; I hadn't thought about making a socket for the sail because I already have a constant, level hard deck to work off. The vearios versions are different lengths and widths as well. Might get a bit complicated. I'll take the Master's advice and cast it up as a separate bit with the flange incorperated.

      Lots of good (and previously) unseen photographs from Fredrik overnight as well. Thanks Mate - really appreciated. It amazes me that people can find these things in the mose obscure corners of the net.

        And I too applaud Fredrik's excellent work finding that picture of the bow plane shutters -- solid gold! And Fredrik: any shots of the bow plane that detail its trailing edge 'flap' (I believe, like the later SIERRA's that the bow planes were variable geometry in function), and maybe even the look of the drag-link that operated the flap.

        Now that the sail will be a separate piece it makes it much easier to incorporate a proper mast foundation to insure all the vertical stuff stays parallel to one another. Good call, Scott.

        Good stuff guys! You all are putting the fun back into this game.

            Adding to what David said, I kept the sail on my Jimmy Carter detachable. I epoxied a brass nut into the inside of the sail, and secure it onto the upper hull with a screw and. washer inserted from the bottom. It holds very tight and allows not only easy & direct access to the air induction system, but also the ability to fit the boat with a differently configured sail. I realize that second point is more of a novelty, but still. I appreciate having that feature.

                This looks good. I was toying with an idea for one of rhese and bought a small plastic kit of one, was only about 6” Long. Assembled basic hull to use as a guideline and thought, no way! But seeing this coming together is a whole different fish

                  There's no great technical explination for what is happening right now with this build. I'm checking dimensions, adding or subtracting filler and sanding. Getting the walkways and the top deck symmetrical and tapered; confirming the rear geometry and casting up a set of rear planes from the Renshape master. Thus;

                      Not yet. But it might be. The great difficulty right now is that there are no accurate plans. I'm making this thing in accordance with a flawed depiction. Its very frustrating and more so because I KNOW that as soon as I finish it, a set of real, dock yard plans will turn up to highlight all of the stuff ups that I have made.. Bugger!
