    3D printing and tariffs

Article about cost of 3D printer and supplies due to Tariffs

Everyone involved in 3D printing will be touched by the Trump administration's executive orders imposing new tariffs. But there's nuance in how exactly.

I jut quoted a print of the Delta IV from my overseas provider. Cost went from $400 to $480 when tariffs were factored in.

      Ouch.

I didn’t hear anybody in here complaining when inflation hit 21.2% during what’s his names term. But now you’re gonna ***** about 3-D printers. We can go tit for tat all day on this, but I’d rather not.

Resin prices on Amazon haven't increased, (yet) but that could easily change when US stocks are depleted. I put in an order for enough to get me through my summer build schedule just to be safe.

For me, cost has taken a back seat to getting quality parts. I'm using McMaster Carr for some hardware and especially bushings and bearings (metric parts availability seems to be improving). They get the order right and delivery arrives as promised. Amazon continues to disappoint and delivery dates keep slipping even though I'm a Prime member.

Politics a side my reason for purchasing 3 d Printer myself too is because of the tariffs. I don't like waste, and I am on a limited budget. kept saying this project will be my last one, then realizing its not. Oh WTF. lol. The money spent t have another printing on someone else's machine, (would be in China because they are still the cheapest and the quality of the previous Canadian American STL files i first class.

I could for same cost buy my own resin printer and be 'independent too, only needing the resign and the stl files. There aren't any tariffs on the STL files, just whatever the draughtman charges and paid using pay pal.

The wrong way was a Canadian Tariff imposed not by them (add 20%) plus a Chinese Tarriff which is now an additional 20%. Now 125%!

$721.00 for a printer or add 20% Canadian and 125% Chinese to that amount = 1045.45! WTF! I have a local McMaster Carr fo my logistics train, and such McMaster expensive too. they mark it up. But buy a bag b flush head stainless steel screws for securing parts. I want the same standard means fr securing deck etc to limit tools needed in the field.

I’ve been meaning to broach the subject of the ‘Open Source Way”. A while ago, I debated building a 3D Printer like Voron since stl’s and bills of material are readily available. But then how many rabbit holes do you go down at once to try and finish a Project. It might be worth pricing out if costs start to spiral out of control.
