Please clarify YOUR definition of best Rob...

In terms of build ease, forum resource, and performance: SKIPJACK

In terms of nostalgia, wow factor, detailed eye candy, increased challenge and WWII love: IX

In terms of desiring a real challenge in build and performance, but probably the most attention at the pond: USOS (8 window) or SSRN (4 window) SEAVIEW.

Loaded question, only you can answer this.

In terms of Value for Money of course. But your answer pretty much nailed it. Although for me it's the Seaview that evokes nostalgia and eye candy. ( born in 70s, grew up watching TV reruns of the original movie and TV series)

I love my 80" SEAVIEW, but it took a bit to run. I followed Ray Mason's paradigm and it was a sweet model to have, and not as difficult providing you were content with having her squat stern down at rest.
Only ran 45 minutes with the power draw. That was in the early '90s, today's power packs makes me look forward to her refit in a couple of years

When you light her up at night, especially in water deep just enough to dive, with the FS-1 docking lights pointing down from the manta fins still able to reach the bottom and reflect? YOU have a head turner, period.

The SKIPJACK? My DeBoer SHARK is my go to, favorite running boat. Always there when I need her, performs like a champ.

Ditto on Skipjack. It will give you the last amount of grief during the build, and provide the best performance underway. Also has the best scope of resources available for build help.

Greg Sharpe's scratchbuilt Beluga made from a DME 1/96 Skipjack with Alfa appendages and scratchbuilt sail. Click image for larger version

Yes, exactly! Ive known most of those pictures, intetesting last one.
That conversion is not so far off . Problem is, you have to shorten a skipjack quite a bit to get the hull right and the stern taper is much sharper. Beluga's just one fat bullet. And it had no waterline mark...

Such conversion of the moebius kit will surely be an eye-catcher.

started trying that on one of my revell skipjacks, can be done i guess.
i went for the crp hull instead.
