ok, so ive got a restricter inline. That was a battle.
So then I decided to shorten the line, so there wasnt a huge bunch of fluid on the valve side of the restricter.
But then on the final test. The little shoe that hits the valve, came off the friggin lever. That is to say where the float is on an arm, that is bent at a right angle to the valve pin. So when the servo works, the float will only allow the pin to be hit if the shoe is in the correct location.
Anyway, that shoe has left the party. Ive lost it. Can anyone tell me what the thickness of that shoe was or should be?
It's a piece of 1/4" wide, by .014" thick brass strip stock, bent at a right angle. In the crutch of the angle you solder a 1/4" length of 3/32 OD brass tube to make up to the 1/16" pivot-pin soldered to the linkage arm.
Or, there was a shim glued to the face of the 'shoe' that got broken off? If that's it, start with a piece of 1/16" thick sheet and see if that gets the float set-point right.
I ended up getting a piece of plastic stock, probably close to 1/16. I set that while I went to lunch and when I came back I was able to re-adjust everything and make it work.
I think I still have some fine tuning to do. But that seems to be the name of the game with this beast. Adjust, repair replace and adjust again.
And I', beginning to believe the model submarine mantra is, "I've just about got it where I want it."
Last evening it was back to the tub in the tub. I re-set the trim since I removed the Sub-Safe. I had to recalibrate all the electronic throw rates and fail-safes. And Im happy to report that all the functions are operating perfectly.
And By the Way, the restricter is restricting the flow of gas and or liquid just fine. The sub no longer bobs to the surface like a cork.
I do still think, that at some point in the future, I will redsitribute the weight and foam in the sub, so that she dives level. It kinds bugs me that when I vent to dive that she drops the nose only and the tail slowly follows. However that is a relativly minor concern. I mean it does dive in place, it just does a sea-saw dive.
I suppose there is always something to lood to on these beasties.
True, Romel! As far as trim, is it level on the surface? and is it level submerged? As it dives it could be from weight, but it could be from how fast air is escaping from front or back of the sub. Try an experiment, tape over the holes in the front. How does it dive now?
For me, dipping down nose first and coming up nose first I'd desirable. While moving (if you have a leveler) it will dive level.
Ill try the tape thing next go-round on the trim setting. Im getting a leveler soon. I do not have one at this time. Ive been told to get one and its in the works. I just have to make it an actuality. So far my goal has been to get her working in original condition and then improve from here. Part of this subs life is sort of a tribute to the original owner. So Im kinda trying to leave some of his spirit in her if you know what I mean.
One thing is that all the weight in the hull is forward of the ballast chamber. There is none at, or aft of the ballast chamber. So that could be the problem.
As long as the longitudinal center of gravity is close to the center of the ballast tank, you're good. Get an angle-keeper in there. Right now you're trying to have fun with a helicopter, but doing it without a yaw rate-gyro. Meaning: you ain't having fun yet, as you are suffering from excessive pilot work-load. That angle-keeper will let you enjoy the ride.
Whoever's Spirit you're trying to please here, you won't **** 'em off adding this device. Don't wait for a burning-bush to tell you to make this improvement!

Ya. I just got the electronics dried out, and the super good news is that everything is still functional.
Still Ive go the model torn appart and sitting in front of a fan for the evening.
Tomorrow evening Ill do another bubble test in the tub to see if I can spot any leaks. After all the runs Ive had, I guess I got a little complacent. I have an idea what happened, but there is an investigation to be conducted still before I render any results and conclusions.
