Hey Hey hey, I said I'm gonna put one in. :) I just haven't, yet. I actually saw the copper tube at the hobby shop. But I need to pull the line and get the proper diameter. And that is on the to do list. I just wanted to run it. If it corked I figured no biggie. But no, there was a mishap, and it spewed liquid what ever all over the inside of the ballast chamber and froze every friggin thing solid. Consider me slapped on the back of the head, Boss.

I also want to kill the power limits on the motor too. I really want this thing to run at scale speed.

This of course underscored exactly what you said. I've just never had it freeze anything in the sub. I've had the Gas Chamber ice up when I cycle it like I was told to. But never the valve.

And then the servo was at full pull. That is to say that normally it pulls out of the chamber to blow ballast and pushes into the chamber to vent and dive. For some reason when I was at the park, the servo was fully pulled. And it wouldn't go to neutral. Even after De-iceing the pivots and such. I have never seen it do this and I suspect the sub-safe. especially since all the controls were operating. Thus I do not suspect the fail safe in the receiver.

And so, I may be back at the park tomorrow. Maybe. Possibly. Probably.

      Ha! Serves you right!

      OK. I've had my fun.

The brass tube you need is 3/32" o.d. Cut it to a length of 3/4" and crimp the center of it so tight that when you suck on one end if barely passes any air. Now you have a proper Propel restricter. And make sure all make-up points between restricter and brass nipples are backed up with hose retainers so the flexible hose does not slip out and dump Propel all over the ballast tank innards.

Your little adventure at the marina points to just one of the reasons I've transitioned almost all our SD's to the SAS (Semi-ASpirated) ballast sub-system.

Don't make me come over there!

Oh and David, in regards to the teacher, She liked it.

And I already told you, you come over here and I'm putting you to work. So Bring it!! LoL

Off to the hobby store to purchase the brass tube.

Hose retainers. Where would I acquire those? Or if its not to be acquired, what material would you suggest I make them out of?

            Small zip ties?

A couple of wraps of some really small diameter brass or stainless wire with the ends twisted securely?

Maybe something along the lines of fuel hose clamps like the model airplane people use??

Just a few possibilities!! Good luck!!

Nope, won't work in the tight confines within the ballast tank. Gary, you trying to make Cecil crazy?!....

EWWWWW! Bad boy! (and yet another long cherished saying goes horribly wrong!)

                  You're ON!

While you're there at the hobby-slop, pick up a piece of 1/8"o.d. brass tube. Cut it to lengths of 1/8", anneal the pieces, then flair one end out into a bell with a hammer and beveling bore (miss-use of tools a specialty here). This forms a retaining collar (hose-clamp) that when slide over the flexible hose where it marries to the brass nipple or end of the restricter compresses the hose tight around the nipple.

(Mike gives me a dollar each time I say 'nipple').

                  Go get 'em, Tiger!

Oh, er um, Ok. Got it. Ill get both of those bras tubes today and get that system squared away over the weekend.

Ronin, what kind of reciever do you have? Some of them have there own fail safe built in. Get rid of those Sub-safes. Ive had two of them and neither one of them lasted.

Try looking for appropriately sized brass eyelets at your local craft store. They're used in making scrap books.

Today I removed the sub-safe and went back to the marina. The winds were 9-15 when I got there. So there were little waves and lots of light refraction. Completely the opposite from the other days test.

There is a very particular feeling of dread when you are running a Radio control submarine on a body of water known to be 150ft deep. This feeling goes into overdrive when you dive the sub. And it seems to disappear completely, and when commanded to surface, . . . does not.
Fortunately,I have a fail-safe programmed. So as a last resort, I flicked off the radio and waited. Two seconds later, the sub popped to the surface.
Turns out one of the kids has flicked some l switches on my radio to low rates. And that was enough to make the servo unable to blow ballast.

So up on the dock, I took it apart, recharged the ballast gas, and set the controller to full rates. Back in the water she went and had a very successful patrol. There was much diving, surfacing, and chasing of ducks.

All is well that ends well.

And I acquired all the brass tubing to redo my ballast gas line. So a restricter will be in my subs immediate future.
