I couldn't pass it up! With shipping it was just over $20US!!
Heng Long 1/24 Leopard, but she does have problems. It was sold "as is", and the
seller says that the upper hull may have a few bits "M.I.A.". There is , also, no transmitter available,
but I've seen them around pretty reasonably priced.
Not exactly what I was looking for, but, at that price.....T'was a "no-brainer"!! (LOL)
At such a "pittance", I got one hell of a good deal, as I've always been a "tinkerer" and am absolutely
confident that I can restore her to "showroom" condition!! Hah!!
Ahh!! My initial foray into the tank world!! I must admit that I'm rather excited at the prospect!!
Fantastic CG welcome aboard to one of the best and least space saving hobbies (So she who cooks) can't complain too much. Yeah no problems at that price matey. Now you just got to source your crew etc.
Like I said I have purchased the Abrahams US tank and a crew figure does come with it, but how many crew members does an Abrahams have or a Leopard have? I will leave that for your research.
By the way I am really pleased you are starting to follow Blue Suede Shoes Book 2 on Word Press. I posted another today and a lot more to come to keep you entertained.
Now back to your Leopard are you going to do it in an Aussie Squadron markings, you do not have to do anything to the cammo really. I want the 1/16 version and my dealer is allowing me to laybye my tanks now as he knows I am a pensioner that's great news for me.
The Japanese T90 that Heng Long do in the 1/24 scale is nice too. Brand new at 63.00. Did the seller say that it was a going concern if a transmitter was purchased, did it come with battery and charger? the packs on those are I think 6V and are a smaller square looking battery pack.
Now you know if I can be of any assistance to you dont hesitate to ask. My email is the armstrong628@bigpond.com if I can be of any help to you now or in the future with tanks.
All I have to do now is build me one of Caswells radio controlled Submarines or buy a kit and purchase his kits to convert it. I would really like a big Oberon class as I did go into one of those when I was in communications in the RAAF a great experience.
I do not know if they have any kits of an Oberon, there is one in the UK but he is asking Im not sure 2000 - 3000 pounds or dollars but it's a big unit. I think though my next project will be a 1/6th Sherman which will look great. I can pick up one I think for about 1100 - 1200 dollars Aussie compare that to the Taigen all metal tiger which I can purchase for 430.00 at 1/16 there is a big difference, I will see if I can get photos of my mates Panther G in 1/6 scale he sold that for 1400.00 pounds in the UK and regrets it ever since. I will work on that one.
Okay congrats now start fiddlin when she comes
CA
Could not find the Panther G but here is the 1/6 Sherman brand new. Could I not have fun detailing this large model. I would do a copy me thinks of Oddballs Sherman as in the Dirty Dozen complete with speaker mp3 player playing the railroad tune I've been working on the railroad as in the movie. My mind boggles CG.
and here is the crew I have chosen for our Panther G. I have ordered the upgrades and the cammo for the Hull also. Just to refresh your memory on the Panther G.
That is also a Video of the 1/6 scale Sherman being demonstrated.
Ok there we are one mans dreams might turn into reality one day, I certainly HOPE SO!.
CA
I could not resist wetting your whistle fellow modellers this video was just so well done. I cannot image the money outlay to make such tanks but lets assume that they are Armotrek 1/6 scale models which are all Metal and not cheap.
I enjoyed this hope you do too.
I know we are getting away from the build but filling in time until parts arrive. The other thread has assumed the role of Kit making which I do not do so I am posting here for the RTR people like me. I would not mind however if I could afford it to put together an Armotrek kit which would be completely from a plastic kit build altogether, and they are designed to Run not sit on a shelf.

Hello fellow tankies, submariners, modellers and my mate CG. Well I have gone and done it and put a 1/6 Vantex Sherman tank on layby. Instead of the Electric version, I chose the 26cc petrol version which I reckon will be a real stinker.
So now all I have to do is pay for the beastie. Will be a while but it will be worth it. I will source out some crew for it and the MP3 player with the railroad music. She comes in Fibreglass, Aluminum and Metal. She will still have all the essential electrics onboard also for the turret rotation etc.
Okay that's it for now next post should be recommencing the Panther G build and starting to finish her off nicely in the Winter Camouflage,.
CA
Great videos!! I can only imagine what fun it would be to play with a 1:1 scale "toy" like that Panther beast!! Very cool!!!
The music in the video of the Sherman brought back many fond memories of an all-time favorite T.V. show!
Hogans Heros was something I looked forward to all week long!! Especially Sgt. Schultz; "I know nutting"!!!
A most entertaining show!
I also placed a bid on another Leopard of the exact same type as the tank that I purchased. It also had a few problems.
The seller said that the barrel was "jammed" as it would not fire BBs, but it did have a controller. a broken, and stapled, track was also listed!!
Should I happen to "win" the bid, I'll have two of them at my disposal! A little part swapping, a bit of upgrading, and I'll be in business!
The unit I bought did have it's battery pack, but no charger! They're also available pretty cheaply! The only controller I have
been able to find, so far, is the standard 2-toggle type for F.M. operation. I'll research a bit more and see what I can come up with.
Crystals and such are easily obtained. I won't know, until it arrives, whether or not the internal electronics are good, as the seller was unable to
test anything due to the lack of a controller! No worries!! As I mentioned earlier, I love to tinker!!
I have no ideas as to Aussie Squadron markings, but would certainly be up for a bit of a "tutorial" if you have something specific
in mind!! Being a "Leopard", is it not necessarily a German tank?? I have seen the "Snow Leopard", which was an American tank, but.....?
Well, of to load up on a little caffeine, then a few hours of tractor work around the property! I have 7 yards of dirt to move
so I can prepare to get the front lawn up and going! Brand new house, almost 7 years ago, and finally getting around to
landscaping the front!! Hah!! Better late than never!! (LOL)
Have a good day, my friend, and I'll "talk" to you a bit later!!
Hey CG moving along there in Style. I won't promise anything but from memory I just might have a 1/24 Heng Long transmitter out in the jumble of a shed I have. I will have a good look today and see if I can find it. I did do a clean up last year of stuff that I had not used in years, see that's the trouble and that's why I do not like throwing things like bits for models away, you just never know when you or one of your mates needs something you might have and not using. Anyway I will have a good look for you and hopefully it might be lying down there just waiting.
Mate check out this website. www.tankarmy.com they are in Brisbane I think and they sell all things Heng Long. They have 1/24 tanks and spare parts. The guy that I deal with is called Kevin and he assures me that he can order from Heng Long direct if any parts are not listed on the website. Ok that might help you out a bit also.
I will get some Aussie markings for you but not much really. Aussies purchased the Leopard and in fact our first tanks arrived still in the German colour schemes. They were a bit of a boo boo here great tanks and we paid a lot of money for them. They replaced our Churchills and as the Vietnam war was on the Tankies got the ****'s as none of our tanks ever made it over there to do battle. One top brass fellah stated what's the point of having a fully ready and equipped tank force and not being able to use them. It was officially stated at the time that they were for Home Defence, how's that.
That's another thing you will find with this Tank Hobby, the parts even for us retirees are very affordable. I just finished getting the upgrade parts for our Panther G which were metal tow ropes, Buckets a new improved smoke unit and an upgraded speaker for the sound effect total cost including postage 50.00 which isn't bad. The plastic parts are even cheaper. For example I can get a set of Driving wheels, Rear wheels or Idlers as they are called Tracks, a steel set of gearboxes and the total cost would be just nudging 100.00 but what a great improvement to the tanks performance, and durability as well as looking the part. That's one of the reasons I like it and then with a bare model or out of the box model you can sit there like an artist and create your tank if you want too.
Well do not strain yourself out there in the Clay mounds be careful with the old back cobba haha
Cheers
CA
Many thanks for your most generous offer of that controller! I have found a seller on Ebay who has many parts
for Heng Long tanks! The controller, battery charger, etc. The controller is a mere $21US, so no problem picking one up.
I would be happy to send you that amount for your controller, should you find it! That, or, I can help you out with your future sub build!!
The Ebay sellers I.D. is: boboxiaoshan318 His Ebay shop is called: lily land Pretty impressive list of offerings!!
The model missing the controller and charger may get to me tomorrow! I am anxiously awaiting her arrival! Also, I was the high bidder on the second Leopard, as well and it has a controller and charger. According to the seller, about the only problem it has is that the barrel appears to be "jammed", in that she is unable to fire BBs, and may need a new set of tracks! If so, I will go with the metal tracks. Should be a pretty simple "fix"!!
So, I can always use the same controller for both of them, if need be as I will, probably, only be running one at a time, but.....
when my grandsons are here for a visit, that scenario may play out differently!! Hah!!
And, yes indeed! Me old back is a bit "out-of-sorts" this morning from my "tractor episode"!! Managed to get about 1/2 of the 7 yard pile of
top soil and humus moved to where it needed to go! Raked it out fairly even, and will dump the rest of the "mountain" on top of that!
Makes the "Missus" quite happy, and if she's happy, I'm happy!! Funny how that works out, eh?? Hah!!
I read about the Aussie Leopard tanks in your "tanks Of The World" blog yesterday! What a waste of quite a bit if firepower! A shame
they weren't able to be utilized as hoped!
Well, Mate! I'm off for now! Have a good day and will look forward to hearing from you when your time permits!!
Hello fellow modelers and CG.
I could not resist this purchase today at 49.00 and free postage I think it is a bargain. I also purchased a set of US Alpine Tank Crew which is in the 1/35 scale. The Tank is 1/30 scale so as I am used to the bigger stuff it is an experiment for me to marry the two up to see if the 1/35 crew don't seem out of place or too small. Should not be that much of a difference I hope.
I will get to the shed first thing CG and advise you as soon as I can re controller. I don't want any money thanks for the offer.
So that's the two parties in crime lets see how they turn out.
I have dealt with that Ebay seller a long time ago and will keep it in mind thanks.Could be a problem in the Airsoft gun, just check that a BB is not jammed in the bottom of the barrel it happens sometimes. I spoke to my dealer tonight CG and told him that after I pay for the Panther G upgrade stuff on Thursday I will be ordering from him both Heng Long tanks, ;in 2.4gz and Ir the Leopard and also the King Tiger fully upgraded with the metal parts already fitted. He has started a page in his website and he wants to display pictures of my tanks and give me a 10 percent in future on all purchases. How could I refuse? I have redone the Bulldog so I sent him pictures of that. See what you think of this one?
Okay that is the finished product. I am doing no more to this tank except probably play with it and try and shoot up my Panther's
CA
Hello Fellow Modelers, well CG in answer to your question Yes I do, but I did not do these ones in the Bulldog. They came from Awesome Hobbies in a packet I don't know the brand and I have not seen them when I have been looking, perhaps one of our lookers in perhaps might know.
Rusting the Wheels of the Panther G the steel wool is going nice and rusty after 2 days of drip soaking, I will let em go tonight and perhaps tomorrow night will take a look.
That's about it for this posting
cheer for now
CA
Hello Fellow modellers and CG. I thought I would take the time and show you my rusting methods in action. The pictures are our Panther G and of a Tiger 1 I am also doing.
This is the technique I use with the steel wool pads instead of buying the Rusting effect stuff you have to pay decent monies for. Steel wool pads are a lot cheaper and give a natural effect of rust
when applied in this way.
Ok there you have it, The pads have been laid on to where I want the effects to take place. I have taken pads off wheels of our Panther G and turned it around to do the other set of wheels.
I think the rusting of the wheels shown is good. I will take pictures tomorrow to show what is happening.
Until next posting
