    HMS X-Class Stickleback Midget Submarine

I am starting a new 3D printed submarine build.

This will be a 1:24 plus scale RC submarine. I will be using my Dremel 3D40 printer with white PLA filament.

The above is some more information on the full scale sub and its history.

My plane with this boat is to take it all the way to full diving capability (WTC/SD) and also do some weather on the final finish. The other good thing about this boat if I getit operational is, it will be a great boat for the pool. Every other boat I have built except for the 1:77 scale Nautilus were just to big for the pool.

        Romel,

How did you know that I really like to have a bowl of popcorn on my work bench while I am building. Great site with some good recipes.

Rob, nice addition. I also drive my subs in my pool, I I often print the rudders larger or add a rudder extender to increase the turning ability. Happy to share my STL files so you can see what I design.

Thank you for the files. I have used these type extenders on some of my boats. The majority of my boats are over 36" long, and in my pool even with the extender, all I can say is I am glad I have reverse. I see you use Autodesk Tinkercad. It's very simple to use and you do get great results.

            Thanks Bruce.

So around 673MM in length, what size cylinder are you employing? Where did you purchase the files?

                Hi Bruce,

I got the files from CGTraders. STL files at 1:24 scale at 100% size. I increased the size to 110% and that is the max that I can go with my Dremel. With that in mind I will be going with a 2" cylinder. That means I will have to pull off a David M. cylinder build. Going to be interesting! But, I will make it work!

The photos show additional lower hull sections, and also the 2" cylinder that I will be using for the WTC.

I have been going through some of the accumulated parts from previous builds.

These are just a few of what I have that I could use on the Stickleback. At this point I am not sure if I will incorporate a simple low pressure ballast system for this boat, or go with just a partial submersible surface runner!? It's just going to be a fun boat for the pool! I have a lot of David M. photos and ideas as to how to install all this into a 2" cylinder.

                        Time will tell...

                            Thanks Romel!

That video gives me an idea where I need to be as far as how it is set up for water operation underway.

Well after watching the great video you put up, what to my surprise was a YouTube video that came next.

1:12 Scale British X Craft RC Submarine (youtube.com)

It was a video that Bob Martin put up about 5 plus years ago of the X-Class submarine that he had. His video will be extremely helpful as I start the build up of my Stickleback.

So! Thank you again for providing me with all this great information. And thanks to Bob for doing the video on his X-Class.
