The x-craft were essentially a smaller Holland class sub, with a simplified hull form to speed up construction, and some bow revisions for (slightly) better seakeeping on the surface. Like the Holland's, the skippers tended to trim them with a flooded or partly flooded rear tank when surfaced to get the stern low in the water, which is why photos of the boats in action tend to show them in a slanted trim when surfaced. Some modellers emulate this by incorporating a shiftable ballast trim e.g. move the main battery or suitable weight with a servo.

These X-Class boats sure seem to be very popular among the submarine community!

Tonight I finished up the lower hull sections, and I have started on the top hull sections.

I built the HMS Holland. I have had it in the water only one time.

As you could tell, I have not achieved that low stern look yet. I am still working on it, and it still needs some addition paint work.

I also built the SM-UC 5 German sub. I have run it a couple of times, and it also needs some additional trim and paint work.

I really have a passion for this type WW 1 WW 2 Boats.

SM UC 5 is a German minelayer, not a British sub. S.M. stands for "Seiner Majestät" -> His Majesties. So Imperial German Navy in WW I

              Thank You DrSchmidt,

WOW! I stand corrected and appreciate you catching my error. I spent about 3 months building that boat and new full well it was a German Boat.

              Thank you again sir..

The further I get into the build on this boat, the more I am impressed with the quality of the STL files.

I wish you would finish the Seaview first.

                      Casey,

I am working on the Seaview! My Flashforge is working right now printing out the parts for the command deck, and I am working on the hull putting it together as I write this post..

I always have two or three projects going at the sometimes> Just the way I like to do things. While I was printing out the parts for the Seaview I was building my life size fully functional Robot.

Next will be to print out all the extra parts needed to complete the boat. So far I have been impressed by the quality of the prints.

All the parts are completed and ready to be put together. I am very pleased how well the parts came out. My Dremel really does a great job printing small pieces.
