There were several of these boats that its SNORT failed contributing to the loss of the boat.One of these was HMS Affray! The Snort tube broke off. The Admiralty stated that the real cause for the loss of the boat was a battery explosion. Only Amphion and Astute were delivered before the end of hostility's.
In operation they initially were considered unstable. After the addition of a extra buoyancy tank in the bow the were declared much improved. Sixteen were built and the rest were canceled.During post war testing HMS Alliance commenced a SNORT cruise that lasted thirty (30) days before she finally surfaced. In Feb. 1948 HMS Ambush did the same thing but for six (6) weeks. 281 ft. 8" long. 22 ft. 8" beam, 18.5 Knots surfaced, 8 knots submerged. ten(10) 21" torpedo tubes(6 bow(2 external), 4 stern (2 external), One(1) 4" gun.
