This is going to be a somewhat modified build in that I am resizing and re-designing the interior in order to install a WTC and a ballast diving system! (my design and fabrication)

Based on what I have right now it will be between 20" to 24" long. The WTC (SD) will be 2.75" OD with a 2.50 ID size. More design work and layout needed to sure things up! My hope is to make this a full diving sub!

Making some head-way on the hull sections! Using Dremel Digilab PLA white on this project, and I am very pleased with print quality at this point!

Not totally sure which way I am going to go with the ballast system on this project! I do not have a lot of space in the WTC, because the hull will only be open for about an 18" to 20" long 2.75" OD cylinder! One idea will be a piston type system, or using a water in and out pump system! Going to be interesting for sure, but most of all a fun learning process!

Today I was able to do some experimenting on a possible ballast tank system design!

the only problem that I can see with this design is space! So to compensate for the extra space needed I am adding one more hull section to the sub! I have already increased the beam size, so some extra length will not make any difference, it not being built to any specific scale anyway!

In the process to design and fabricate the adaptor for the plunger unit! I took the plunger apart and built up a back plate using the existing plastic and making two brass washers to attach the plunger and rubber seal to the main screw shaft!

Now on to the design and fabrication of the housing for the motor and the screw drive unit!

I printed Carl's SDV last year and have slowly added additional interior and exterior detail, with new masts that will be lever-operated on the next print. It's a nice little boat and a fun project. The SEALS often drive the thing with their heads above the front end (poor man's PD) during practice runs, though the optical mast works quite fine.

              Nice looking model!

Ounce I get the sub I am currently working on completed, I would like to Print out a scale model like yours for the book case, just to have as a static display! In order to get everything to make this sub operative, I needed to change the scale to make this happen! I might have been able to do it at true scale, but to install all the mech. and electrical components into that size would make a truly tough project!

If this project works out, I may attempt to scale down all the components and install them into the scale SDV model!

A couple of renders during the re-design.

Rob Thanks for sharing your MK8 Build with us.

Question about your MK8, is that 3D file your creation OR did you find it somewhere?

If yours` would you consider sharing?

                    Thanks again

To get those files to print in the size you have what enlargement factor did you use?
Thanks again for posting this here.
