Years ago I did a similar test to find out what masking tape (specifically the tapes self-adhesive glue chemistry) would and would not inhibit the cure of Platinum based RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) mold making rubbers. Unfortunately, my analyses and other records from way back then were lost during the big flood here -- we spent three weeks shoveling stuff from the first floor and shop into a rent-a-dumpster. That, and most of my other findings up to that time, were lost. Poor me... Whaaaah!
(No, you babies, it's not 'Climate Change'... it's called, WEATHER! **** happens, deal with it).
As part of my tool making process sometimes I use masking tape to form the outer containment dam, to contain the catalyzed rubber. And for that tapes adhesive not to inhibit the cure of the rubber as the rubber changes state from thick liquid to hard rubber i.e., I have to know which brand of masking tape has an adhesive that will not thwart the curing of the mold making rubber during the curing process.
What I illustrated was a repeat of the initial test of the many brands of low and high tack self-adhesive tapes I employ in this type of work. Result is in. Only one brand of tape was found to contain Sulpher in the adhesive -- it's Sulphur that inhibits the cure of Platinum based RTV's. I ****-canned that roll of tape and moved on.
Peace and tranquility has been restored to my little shop of horrors.
