Now, that is a slick way to hide the bull-nose! It's like a Pez dispenser!

Dave, On that Collins class sail there is a hole right in the middle of the leading edge. Is that a mine avoidance radar emitter or is it something more sinister?IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

DUH is right! Thats exactly what it looks like. I knew trains and ships had various blast horns and such but I have never thought about a submarine having one. Learn something new everyday.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

One of the biggest scares of my life came as I was standing just forward of the sail, as rescue-swimmer (my maneuvering station topside during my last patrols aboard the WEBSTER), The OOD failed to shout down, 'Whistle!' before giving a blast to the approaching Pilot boat. The horn cut loose and I lost my mind! Not only the sound, but the high-pressure thud of sea water against the back of my head. The water trapped in the throat of the horn has to go somewhere the first time it's used after surfacing.
Yeah ... subs have whistles. Most of 'em set into the leading edge of the sail.
