Best picture of a Priz that Ive seen yet.

Wonder what's to the right of Surcouf. Looks like a British S. What's interesting about the gun placement on the "other" boat is that it's raised. Most other subs put deck guns on, well, the deck. This raised position probably gave some range advantages, but the added height meant more movement when the sub rolled. As to the Priz, I'd bet the 20 "passengers" would be very, very happy to take a ride to the surface instead of swimming...

Outrider, I have reason to believe that the boat on the right in the picture is the HMS Parthian, a P class numbered N75. Note the next picture. I believe that this is her. Also this next picture was provided by Gantu the other day and I believe that it was taken at the same time as the first picture except it was taken from the top of the Surcoff, therefore the boat, now on the left in the shot would be the Parthian. What do you think? That gangway that you see there between the two boats must have been the place that the photographer was standing when he took the first shot.

I agree with your analysis. Surcouf made an interesting trip to England as France capitulated to the Germans. This photos is likely taken in the UK, perhaps at Plymouth.

It's interesting to see how modern the P class is compared to the WWI subs and how similar Ps were to the S class. Also interesting is that Surcouf, though a real giant, doesn't seem that much bigger than the P class.

This Zulu I ran thru Picasa and lightened up the picture so that the bow was more disernable. Im still learning the program
