Thanks, Tom. Right now I have the two cameras videoing a clock (finding out how much time a 32gig SD will last). Just as soon as that's done I'll take that software I just downloaded and try to get that time/date stamp removed from the image. Thank you so much for your help. Next project is to get your 808 camera case working.

I had a problem with vignetting when I first made the enclosures and enlarged the front lens until it disappeared. However there are a wide range of lenses the 808 cams come with, and it looks like you got one with a considerably wider angle.

if you've managed to get the cam right up front, then that issue has hopefully been eliminated. Picture looks very chrisp, so you should get some very nice shots underwater.

The time and date stamp can be turned off on these cams. They tend to include that for the private dicks that buy them for covert surveillance work, and use the footage as evidence in court.

You'll get a shed load of footage on a 32GB card, battery will be the limit.

Andy, first off I want to thank you for the years of very good information about these cameras and other stuff -- I blame you for my recent success in getting these little 808's to work underwater.

I ground just a little off the sides of the forward half of your waterproof enclosure (the wall thickness was already marginal, but I was careful). I've now got the camera lens right up against the lens of your enclosure -- no more artifacts at the periphery of the image.

And, yes, I sprang for the 120-degree lens -- and very happy I did. Much better capture of the scene with this lens. And I'm with you, Andy, that image is crisp! A big improvement over the older 808 cameras.

I ran both cameras (I bought two) in a test of battery and the 32gig SD card. I got over an hour-and-a-half of good clean video! These new cameras feature a 250mAh battery! So, run-time will not be an issue.

I hope to have this thing in the water, towed behind the 1/96 BLUEBACK, tomorrow.

        Film at Eleven!

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Geeez Buddy. I'm going to have to learn Dutch. What's the difference between a French kiss and a Belgique kiss? Nothing, there's just more Flem in the Belgique kiss!!!!

The sub in that video was weaving around like crazy. Must've been some serious current there that it was fighting. I love the idea of a towed camera. My water down here in 'gatorland is so crappy cloudy that it wouldn't help at all for me, though.

That was amazing stuff! A few shots of the boat on the surface fighting one hell of a swift current gave some indication of the waters speed over ground. David Taylor Model Ship Basin on the cheap. His underwater shots of the boat as the camera was towed are inspirational.

Good stuff. The circular tail piece seems to do its job well.

Just need to switch off the date/time stamp. Not sure about the procedure on that cam, on my 720p model it simply involved saving a modified txt file to the root directory of a blank micro sd card and inserting it into the camera. They greatly improved the utility of the 808's over successive generations with feedback from the users,

Did you get any fogging on the enclosures lens at all? That was always a possible concern, with moist, warm air inside the module, compressed slightly when the cover is pressed home, then plunged into the cold water. The intention was to put a schrader valve in to relieve pressure, and a small sachet of silica gel to scavenge any moisture.

Yes, Andy. Seems I guessed right the first time as to stabilizer style, area, and length from c.g. (as a kid I was big-stuff in the free-flight circles and was described by some as an 'instinctive' engineer).

Yeah, I've been looking over the net for a how-to to get the time/date stamp off the recorded video. No joy so far. But I'll keep up the hunt.

Nope, no fogging at all. My trick is to leave your housing open at the site and let it and the camera 'acclimatize' for a quarter-hour. Only then do I button things up and operate. No fogging what so ever. But I hear you about the valve -- your wonderful little camera housing is a total ***** to open up if the inside-outside temperature differential is significant.

(ass-kissing mode ... on!) I tell you what, Andy: you should seriously consider going commercial with that thing! The design is spot on and the craftsmanship top-notch (ass-kissing mode ... off!)

Awesome video & project David. What I recall about removing or setting the time-date. You create a text file in certain format, connect the device to your computer and copy the text file to the device. Not sure if you've seen this website, info about doing this is buried there someplace depending on your keyfob model.

I posted two replies with links about the camera. Both said unapproved, whats up with that? Bob?

Try this for the date thing David. I copied this from a website that I gave a link to which is in my 'unapproved' post, maybe Bob needs to approve them.

1.) First you want to create a text file or “txt”. To do this we first need to open up “Note Pad” on your computer.
2.) Inside the Note Pad you enter in the following:

                                [date]
                                2017/03/16
                                14:30:00

Please note that the date represents year/month/day. The time is represented as military time (hour:minute:seconds).

3.) Make sure you save the file as TAG.txt to your desktop. TAG must be in caps.
4.) Connect your 808 camera to your computer using the provided USB cord. The red light on your camera should be on. Be sure to have your micro SD or TF card inserted into the camera.
5.) A file should open when you connect your camera to your computer. Open the file to where you see a folder that says DCIM. Place the TAG.txt page next to the DCIM folder (not in it).
6.) Disconnect your camera from the USB cord.
7.) Take 5 to 10 seconds of video and then turn off the camera
8.) Plug in the camera and open the DCIM folder. Then open the 100MEDIA folder.
9.) Your video clip should be in the 100MEDIA folder. When you click on the movie clip your computer should open up the video using Windows Media Player or something equivalent. The date and time should be set correctly at that point.
