Sweeeeeeet. I always wanted to have that one operational on my OSCAR, but had to give up on it to get all the other mechanics to work with the scheme I came up with.

I found a Video of a DELTA where the Cod Eye hatch opens up (@ 0:30 and 1:22)......but no cigar is rising (but I believe it differs from the one of the OSCAR anyway)

I fitted an automatic system to the Akula that pushes the bollards up when the boat surfaces and reaches normal surface trip. As she submerges the bollards retract so that by the time she gets to decks awash they are completely flush with the deck.
As an alternative I might make these hydraulic. All the masts and doors are going to be run by a pump and valve system so it might be relatively simple to hook these up as well.Comment

Surface "TRIM"; not surface "trip". Also forgot to mention that the the photograph above does not show the foam which fits over the SS nuts at the end of each arm. When the boat is submerged the form exerts an upward force on the arm which keeps the bollards retracted, as the boat surfaces the water level within the hull drops; the foam stops exerting an upward force; the SS nuts exert a downward force and the bollards rise. There's a drop of silicon oil in each bollard housing that damps the up and down movement so that they are not going up and down like a fiddler's elbow.Comment

Hummm.... making suggestions to improve the camera work would imply a veiled criticism of the cameraperson which is somewhere that I'm not brave enough to go. She's fair, but cruel. Interesting ending however. The fore planes are very sensitive and I dialled in a bit too much speed just as she dived. Looks like she did a torque roll and a tight, right descending turn. As I pulled the rear planes up it made the turn tighter and she went to the bottom (about 20 feet down). Lots of bubbles and then....stillness. Fortunately she poped up about a minute later when the ballast failsafe activated, covered in mud and weeds but otherwise OK. The down side of operating in my pond is that if I loose a boat there its not coming back in a hurry. Its dark and deep.Comment
