Looks stunning Scott, I love the realistic touch of covering up the props for security reasons. Have to say the you've won me round on the tiling for a moment I though you had gone mad but it really works.
Peter
Yeh. I just couldn't do it any other way. All those great photographs that you dug up show the tiles so clearly that it just had to be done. I tried sticking on 4000 paper tiles first but it looked terrible; then scribing - aslo terrible; and finally decided to just paint the tile joints in a darker grey. They still llok pretty raw but after some grunging up with a bit of rust they will be less prominent. What I'd like to see is a flat looking surface that appears uniform from most angles but shows the tiles (subtly) when viewed from certain perspectives. We'll see.
I'm impressed with the tiling...and even more by your patience to get it done.
grtz,
Bart
Thanks Bart. The tiles are my little thing, but what really makes this boat is Vladimir's perfectionist detailing. The Oscar is a wonderful kit; so much detail and accuracy. The guy is a genius in my opinion.
I'm attempting to teach myself to use this new format. Quite challenging. Amazingly, after all the bashing (and dropping) the lighting system still works. All of the top side weathering is essentially done now. That's weird. I can't cut and paste for some reason. Strange goings on in the placement of photographs. After all this stuff dries I'll move on to the lower hull. Quite a few of Peter's photographs show tile damage on the upper hull. Here's an attempt; not sure I like it yet.Looking nicely beaten up. I hope Vladimir doesn't read this.
The beginning of the lower hull painting. Started with water spray and rock salt, then a mist coat of USMC green splodges, then a light squirt of pale grey around the waterline. I'll let it all dry off properly overnight and then get at it again tomorrow. This is all a bit arse about face at the moment as I'm waiting for the SD to arrive. Waiting, waiting, growing old, rip van winkle, snooze, burp, fart - think I'll have a nice rest now.

Some Cadmium green around the waterline.
Then some Phthalo green blotches on the light green.
Then some Yellow ocre blotches over that. All done. Now it will take three days for the oil paint to dry, during which I'll make the forplane doors.
Her Majesty enquired as to my intentions - having wandered down to the bunker and spied me building a "coffin"!!! "One more ****ty video", I said etc etc.
