Dave, can you help out the Caswell/British tools boys on that gas backup kit? Theyve never heard of it. I think Mike is stumped to.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

My bad, Mark -- I'm late getting Caswell the listing of the Emergency gas ballast sub-system for the catalog. Hope to do that over the weekend. I'll post a copy of that for your information here tonight or tomorrow.
You incredible pain-in-the-ass, you!

Now on to my humble build. Picking up where I left off a couple of months or so ago. Turning the sail upside down and previously installing the sail plane mechanism, I am free to install the lower gear set that meshes with it. Its a matter of CAing the bushings to the inside of the sail. You can put a drop of gap filing CA on the outside of the bushing where it touches the inside of the sail wall, once youve got everything lined up, and then hitting them with accelerator. I used gap filling CA because I dont want the thin stuff wicking thru and glueing the shaft as well.
A side note to this is that the supplied bushings are a really close fit but I wanted absolutely no binding in this mechanism, seeing that its attached to the linkage by the small magnet. So, I took a 3/16" drill bit, and using it as a file, I carefully filled out the inside of the bushings until they were a perfect fit, no high friction spots.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Also note that the lower sprocket will hit the front sail foundation as you can see here. Im going to open it back up and trim a little clearance for it with the Dremel wheel, just to be sure we wont have any lack of range of motion later on.

Since the shaft for the sail planes is offset towards the bow, the sail planes are heavy towards the stern, therefore to keep from going completely STARK RAVING MAD...........may I suggest using masking tape to hold your planes from moving during this tedious operation.Last edited by greenman407; 10-15-2013, 09:53 AM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment
