More progress on the torpedo tubes. As they were capable of setting off both torpedos and mines, there were tons of valves, interlocks, hoses, and whatnot.....redesigning all this just from photos is kinda challenging.

Here's a rare picture of the inside of a Type XXIII. The toredo tubes were taken from canceled VIIc boat builts. So exactly the same like on other German boats. But you are right. Tehy were loaded from outside....Leave a comment:

I believe the torpedoes were loaded from the outside. With that in mind, would it still look the same on the inside as other subs that loaded the torpedoes from the inside?

Working on the Schnorchel drive. An air motor drives via a bevel gear a reversing gearbox (modeled after a Volvo Penta gearbox). After latter, another bevel gear drives the shaft to the Schnorchel gear. In between a chain drive for manual operation in case of failure of the air motor...took me while.
